Idea: Auto-detect print failures

Postby Mshindi » Tue Jul 21, 2020 6:10 pm

Idea:
Use the camera + software to auto-detect when a print begins to fail and push a notification to the app/email.
I'm thinking mainly of prints that detach from the printing bed at some point after the initial successful start. This way, an overnight print could be stopped before it becomes a catastrophic failure that fills the nozzles, cables, etc with plastic, like this one: https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/com ... _any_tips/

It could also be set to automatically pause and confirm the print is okay before continuing.

Perhaps the Print Success/Failure prompt at the end of the print could even be used to train a machine learning model with this, and eventually other print failures could be detected?

Good idea, I was having a similar idea but maybe for another type of failure, a sensor to monitor that the filament roll is really rotating and pausing in case the filament get stripped (to much drag or the flow out of the nozzle becomes obstructed. Maybe it could be also done with a camera, on E2 would need some kind of window and some visible sticker on the roll.
