Ideamaker Infill Movement

Postby hovig_p » Sun Feb 24, 2019 4:06 pm

Hey Everyone

The quality of Ideamaker is fantastic.

The only issue/question I have is why does the infill not print in one continuous motion like the inner and outer shells?

It changes position multiple times on every layer. Moves here, moves there, comes back, moves again trying to be look fancy. Lol!! Then without using z-hop the nozzle grinds against previously extruded infill.

Must be a better way to do this?

Usually the way infill is printed is calculated to be the fastest with the least and shortest moves - the skipping around may seem silly but it's actually more efficient depending on the model - a square for example should be printed continuously corner to corner.

I you choose rectilinear infill I think you will get what you are after.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the response.

I tried rectilinear infill and look at all the travel moves in the attached. CRAZY!

Anyways guys

My model is 100% infill. I changed the top and bottom solid layers to ‘concentric’ and it reduced the print time by approx 4hrs but the movements stayed them same.

I hate to revive this thread but i am getting MAJOR travel on a print, absolutely a waste of time, back and forth to print 1mm then over 10" to do another mm and on and on.

I think it would be important to introduce the concentric also for infill movement.

The amount of travel is CRAZY! and this is after i unchecked "don't travel through holes" which was MUCH worse as it would follow the frame around to get to the other side.

Would you like to share STL, Gcode and Data files of the model you attached in picture?
We want to do some further test to see whether we can improve this or not.

You can compressed the three files to be one zip file and attach it into your reply.

Try enable "avoid travel through hole" and edit "solid fill pattern" to be "rectilinear". Those might help your issue.
We will keep on optimizing the moving path.

Enable "avoid traveling through hole" is MUCH MUCH worse. This causes the same travel start and finish, VIA the skinny parts of the frame, taking MUCH LONGER to print as it goes around instead of straight across.
I will try rectilinear.

The main function for Avoid Traveling Through Hole is to avoid the chance to move nozzle outside of the model to reduce the oozing filament
left at the outer surface of the model.

I found the culprit. "Fill Gaps in SHells" that is why it is traveling all over hell and creation! Why is the slicer not optimized so all functions besides outer and inner shell are accomplished in an area coordinated fashion? This thing is hoping around all over the place.

The option "Fill Gaps in Shells" is designed for adding infill into the gaps between shells.
We will keep on improving travel movement in future versions.

Thanks for your feedback.
