You will at least have a temperature sensor for right side connected to extruder board to let the board know the right side is under normal temperature range.

I described a possibility there how to solve it. It should also be the case that if only one extruder is activated on the printer, the other extruder is treated as OFF by the system. It should be feasible to program this into the firmware.
