another good thing is the edge isn't too sharp, I've cut myself 4 times on the old glass

I think buildtak will work very well with this in a long run.

hairspray can be cheap but messy with the cleaning and preparation of the surface everytime.

No need to clean it every time, I go quite a few prints before cleaning.

With hairspray i use the buildplate as much as i can but i do not print twice on the same area. When i take the print off the spot where it was has little or no grip anymore and causes lift. So no i dont take it out and clean each print but yes after i use the whole plate once i do need to take it out and clean/resurface it.

If there is a more efficient way i'd love to hear it :) For now i plan to order a few more plates soon so i can just simply switch and clean them by a bunch at a time

We have finished our testing with AquaNet, and the results have been in a word, stunning.
We'll be posting a video of application, use and part removals shortly.

If you are unfamiliar with the AquaNet technique. It requires Aqua Net Extra Super Hold Unscented. $2-$3 USD for 11oz can.

1) Move into a well ventilated area, away from flames.
2) Clean plate with isopropyl alcohol,
3) Let dry completely
4) Shake AquaNet throughly,
5) Apply thin coat to one side only. Spraying slightly past edges before releasing nozzle.
6) Let dry until you can no long see wet patches.
7) Apply another coat, for complete coverage of the same side. Avoid runs or drips.
8) Let dry
9) Install plate into printer, treated side up.
10) Test print to determine and adjust Z height appropriately.
11) Enjoy!

Very good Roger!

We just uploaded the video of the warp, curl, adhesion and release testing using only 2 light coats of Aqua Net Extra Hold, Unscented on the build plate.

Hi Michael,

I'm not able to PM you but I ordered a build plate today and I'm just wondering if you're still trying to unload those poorly cut plates. I'd be happy to have one of those added to my order if can get in touch with me.

Name on order: Mark Petzold

Michael wrote:Hi Folks, we have a few build plates that something didn't quite go right with the Amada laser, and have a little too much carbon scoring on just one end of one side for my liking. It was either cutting speed, power, focus or a combination. If your going to be using an adhesive surface, they will be fine. The only issue would be if you are going to print directly on the both sides of the plate, with glue stick or magigoo. So if anyone would like one of those at a deeply reduced cost, PM me.

BTW, We've already made arrangements to cut the next ones with an abrasive water jet system.

Hi Mark,

Just wasn't happy with them, so we recut them into smaller build plates and 5m/6mm nozzle wrenches... you will find a nozzle wrench in all the orders.

Its a nozzle wrench for 5.5mm & 7mm nozzles. We had remaining small sections of material, so we figured we'd make something sorta useful out of it.

Got my new plate the other day and I love it so far. My glass plates are not even remotely level and this one is dead flat. PLA pops off like a dream. I feel dumb for ordering 2 extra glass plates with my printer. Doh!

Michael, I usually print in ABS so I'm looking forward to the results of your testing.

Is this with the buildtek on it? I have a hard time believing you have a glass plate that isn't flat.

I think the issue is actually the print bed or extruder sag. With the glass the corners are a lot lower than the middle. Almost 2mm lower.

With the BTSN2 plate, the difference is much less obvious but it's still there. I'm reading through lots of threads on bed leveling. I'll do some more testing and report back.

I am interested in getting one because my stock plate just cracked...
-Will I have to relevel the bed or anything if I use this plate?
-I mainly print in PLA and PETG, do I need a Buildtak or can I print directly onto the plate?
-Is there any way to get a discount on shipping (to California)? :P

A difficult constant with heating any plate is that the center is warmer than the edges and top is much cooler than the bottom.
