I need help with making a smooth dome

Postby waliwi » Thu May 30, 2019 2:27 pm

I' am trying to make a .75in tall dome above a 10.5 in on circle, but when I print it rather than having a smooth dome it creates a ripple effect, do anyone know how I can get around this problem?

I have attached a gcode and a picture to demonstrate what I'm am dealing with

Thank you

You can try smaller layer thickness value or you can enable Adaptive Layer Height, but the "ripple" will still be there just not that obvious.
The way ideaMaker slices a model is slicing the whole part with the layer thickness you set. Which means if you choose 0.3mm as your layer thickness the whole model will be divided to be individual layers and each layer is 0.3mm height. If the shape between this 0.3mm to next 0.3mm changes a lot, you will see a obvious big "gap" between the two layers.

You can also check out the explanation about Adaptive Layer Height to get more information about it.

Adaptive Layer Height can make the layers look like roughly the same width, but any near-horizontal surface is going to show the edges of the layers.
