Big layers, big boat

Postby venosa » Mon Jul 04, 2016 3:03 pm

I've been dialing my N2+ to print with big layers, aiming to big models, almost full volume.
I'm testing 0.5 high with a 0.6 nozzle (E3D).
I also did the Bondtech mod, looking for reliability with these layers on non Raise filament. Most of the time local sourced filament (Brazil), or wood.

Here are the infamous 3DBenchy, scaled 150%.
I'm pleased with results, besides some flaws.

Filament: 3DX filament (Brazilian premium PLA)
Slicer: Simplify3D
Hotend Temp: 215C
Bed Temp: 60C
Layers: 0.48
Extrusion multiplier: 0.90
Speed: 80mm/s, outline 50%, Speed Overrides 5sec 50%
Retraction Speed 90mm/s
Retraction Distance 3.0mm

I t looks pretty good for those big layers imo. I would change start point to "chosse start point closest to specific location" instead to get rid off random blobs.

Bingo, Thruster!

Did what you suggested and lowered the speed to 60mm/s.

New print on the right.

Actually I do not like that tiny figures and boats, but that benchy is amazing!
Will you even try to go higher with the layer size?

I think this is the limit for this nozzle (0.6 nozzle -> 0.5 layer)

My bad, I thought you are printing with a 0.8mm nozzle (dunno why).
