New door handle

Postby Yves » Sat Jun 25, 2016 12:09 am

Hi everyone,

I found it difficult to open the door on my brand new N1 printer.

I designed a new door handle that looks and feel like and old "Norge" refrigerator.

It's on thingiverse, if you want a copy: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1643949

Enjoy!

If the latch design is the same as the N2 a lot of people just remove the bottom screw on the latch allowing the bottom spring and ball to fall out. This makes it easier to open and close.

No, on the N1, it's only small magnets that hold the door closed.
In addition to that, my door was a liiiiitle bit to tight, so I took it off and filed and sanded a hair off, now it's juuuust perfect.

But I'm a bit compulsive about details I guess :)

The door on my N1 is also quite a tight fit.
So I might also do some sanding to ease the opening of the door some day :)

I started by filing it, then sanded with 50 grit, down to 100 grit, and finally 200 grit.
Now the feeler gage can go from bottom to top without catching.
It may sound useless, but since we are using the door all the time, I'm glad I did it.
