Ideamaker support generation.

I was playing with Ideamaker for a model that needs support structures and did an interesting observation.

There seems to be two ways to generate supports.

1. You can add support in the Template: Edit Template, Advanced, Support
or you can
2. Use the menu item "Support", "Create Auto Supports" before you slice the model.

It seems that method no. 2 gives better results than method no. 1.

If the slicer generates the support structure, it seems that we will sometimes be printing in the air.
In the same places, when having generated the support using method no. 2, it looks much nicer in the preview and there's no printing in the air.
There are small differences in the amount of filament used and printing time between the tow methods.

I used the same settings for the two methods: Pillar Size 2.0 mm, Overhang Angle 45.0 deg.

So, my conclusion is, it's better to generate supports before you slice the model.

Choose Pillar as Support Type under Support tab which is used in method 2.
Then the result will be the same.

The slicer is using Normal Support Type by default.

Is there a way to choose the support type when using the manual support icon? the issue i have is if I want to remove support from some areas but so not want to use pillar type support, if i choose my preference in the slicer normal/grid then there is no way to remove unwanted supports in areas, yet sont have the option to choose normal/grid with manual support generation.

I believe you still can change support infill type after you add manual supports.
