ideaMaker unstable

ideaMaker (4.0.1.4802) keeps crashing. The only way to survive is to save the file after each individual operation (a PITA :( ).

Anyone else have the same problem?
What's the solution?

My machine is Intel QuadCore i5-3470 CPU @ 3.20GHz, 32 GB RAM, running MS Windows 10 Home v. 1803, build 17134.228 on an MSI B75MA-P45 motherboard with a SAMSUNG SSD main drive.
It has RealTek High Definition Audio and a SAMSUNG U28D590D VDU driven by an NVIDIA QUADRO K620 Video Card. There is a Logitech C930 webcam and I have Windows Defender as Anti-virus with Firefox and Skype running in the background.

i experienced some crashes while setting the slicing options. Running it on Ubuntu Linux

Would you like to help list when the crash normally happens?
If it only happen with some specific file, can you share the .idea, .gcode and .data files with us? Or if it happens on no matter what file you are trying to slice, please share any file you the crash happens with us.

Sorry I did not get back sooner, Vicky. I don't remember getting notified when you replied. Perhaps I didn't check the box.

My STLs are created by FreeCAD but that should not make a difference. I have attached some samples.

Can you update the graphic card drive to be the latest version and check whether it helps?

Got round to using it for real and found that, although is is not Soooooo touchy it still falls over after a few orientation operations.

Nice try but, so far, "No Ceegaar!"

No. The The app just stalls and then closes down.

4.0.1 crashes on ubuntu all the time. just closes itself. sometimes even when you just open it and leave it unattended without doing anything. sometimes while watching the webcam of the printer, sometimes while slicing, sometimes while uploading gcode files to printer, sometimes while previewing the sliced print.

so the only thing that is sure is: it crashes when you use it.

My version is 4.0.1.4802.
Nice to know I'm not the only person who has this issue. I was getting pretty lonely here for a while. :roll:

no, that does not change anything.

tested it on ubuntu 18.04 and 20.04

Please double confirm that the appimage in terminal is "--no-sandbox".
The issue is related to appimage container in some Ubuntu versions. Need to manually input the command line parameters.

i do not use the appimage, i'm using the .deb package.

I'm running the software with /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ideamaker/ideamaker --no-sandbox

Command Line Parameter should be used when AppImage having issue. It doesn't work with .deb.
We recommend you try it with AppImage and run AppImage application with parameters.

Don't forget the Luddites who use Windoze. What's the matter with ideaMaker? Why does it keep crashing?

but i dont want to use the appimage, i wat to use the overhead free .deb package which is obviously broken. So the source of the failure is in the software itself, not in any appimage overhead
