Bridging Detection

Postby deharrow » Tue Aug 04, 2020 2:54 pm

Hi,

I would like to print a component cooler, but I have problems with the bridge detection.
The red marked parts are only recognized as thin wall and not as bridge.
I can increase the value under "Minimal Extrusion Width Percentage", but it doesn't draw a proper line by the 2 small air holes (near the bottom).

(Graphic and STL shows only a test part of the cooler)

Can anyone help me here?

Greeting Juergen

Thinwall structure doesn't support Bridging in ideaMaker. You will need to use Thinkwall Speed to control the printing speed of ThinWall structures.

Hi there, I have a similar issue, small bridge areas are not detected correctly as in other slicers even if the detection area it's at lower possible value. I don't know if it's enough to change only the thinwall speed because the same problem it's present also with infill. The best way to solve this issue it's to let the slicer recognize small bridge area too in next update, obviously if it's possible to do it

ThinWall structures and using Solid Fill as Bridging are differnent cases. Structures being regarded as ThinWall can be able to adjust printing speed which will be conflict with Bridging control.
About the fill issue you mentioned, would you like share .idea, .gcode and .data files with us to run more tests?

Hi Vicky,
thanks for your answers.

Unfortunately I can't get any further here. In the attachment is a bridging test, where the bridging is not recognized :-(
With another slicer (Prusa) the bridges are recognized as bridges.

Do you still have an idea here?

Best regards Juergen

You can try adjusting Gap Fil Speed and Overhang Shells speed to instead.
You will need to enable Overhand Shells Detections for the overhang shells.

Hi, I have the exact same issue....Ideamaker doesn't detect bridging.....did you solve?

Hello Vicky,
i have the same issue as deharrow mentioned.
I tried 4 different bridging test stl files and non of them the bridging detection is working.
I think the detection is broken.

I played with Overhang Shells speed and increased the speed to 60mm/s to see the result:

In this example it seems to work.

In this example with one bridge layer, the bridge layer is not detected:

It's probably related to Solid Fill Shells. Try 1 or 0 instead of 2.

Hello Vicky,

i tried Solid Fill Shells 0 and then it works.
Thanks for your help.

With one solid fill shells it works, but normaly i have 3 solid fill shells in Ideamaker.
I would need to work with layer heights here to changed it from 3 to one wall.
Maybe something can be changed here in the future, because every slicer with 3 walls and bridges has no problems.
Ideamaker is still my favorite slicer!

When there are more Shells, the Solid Fill area is smaller than orginal design.
If the bottom of the model is pretty narrow, it won't be able to support the smaller Solid Fill area.

We will see how to improve it in future versions.
