Dense Support Layers at Bottom of Supports on Part

Postby mitchfx » Mon Jun 17, 2019 1:45 am

I've noticed that Dense Support Layers are generated at the BOTTOM of a support section when they are touching the top surface of your part. This seems undesirable and not what I would expect. In my opinion, the dense support layers should only be generated at the top of your supports just before they contact the downward facing (bottom) surfaces.

Generating dense layer at the bottom of support is to make sure that the top of the model surface is smooth as well.

Vicky,

I guess I don't understand how having denser supports on top of a surface that's already done printing would affect it's quality retroactively. Perhaps have two controls, one for dense top, one for bottom? It seems like a waste of material and time for the base of supports to have all those dense layers IMO. We already have the Support Base Layer feature to add stability and adhesion to the bottom of support when needed so the current behavior of mirroring dense layers on both ends seems redundant. No other slicer I've used does this.

Thanks,
Mitch

Based on the softwares we have seen, a lot of them place dense layers at the bottom of support as well.

Хорошо, сделайте нижний dense опциональным! Чаще всего он только мешает и занимает время.

Well, make lower dense optional! Most often it only hinders and takes time.
