Precision placement of Z-Seam on single and multiple objects.
All,
I'd like to know how to place a z-seam in a specific location on a print.
I know how to move a seam around using the 'fixed' option in layer and changing the X and Y information - but I can only precisely get the z-seam on a corner. I have a print that one side sits on the desk surface, so I'd like to put the z-seam in the center of that.
I have tried moving the x/y numbers around but I cannot reliably and precisely place it. It would be awesome to have a feature that let you click on the model and say 'right there please' - but baring that, is there a way to calculate the exact placement of a seam?
I assume the X / Y mm settings are from origin - but it does not always seem to work that way in practice.
Any insight is greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Mark

Re: Precision placement of Z-Seam on single and multiple objects.
So by doing some more testing, it looks like the seam always wants to be at the beginning or end of a curve or corner that is closest to the provided coordinates. I cannot get the seem to start in the middle of a flat plane - does that sound correct?
The screen shot shows where the seam is placed with the following settings:
X: 30, Y:0
X: 50, Y:0
X:100, Y:0
All three are placed at the end of the curve.

Currently I don't think it's possible to get IdeaMaker to put the seam on a flat face. It would be nice if it was possible.

Placing the seam is painfull.
I am trying every setting to place the seam in my 3d benchy but it get placed in the worst spots.
It could be placed better, I hope they will add a better seam hiding or at least a best manual seam positioning.

Normally the starting point wont be located in middle of a triangle face, otherwise the segment will be divided into two which will affect the final printing result.
In tooltip it has been listed than when the plate is rectangle, settings Fixed Layer Start Point to be 0 will be the left bottom corner of the plate.

I also struggled with with that annoying seam on the side of Benchy's bow. Assuming Benchy is in the middle of a rectangular bed facing right, set the layer start point to fixed; 0,0 and that will put the seam in a corner of the stern. I split my benchy into three vertical sections so that I can independently control the seams on the hull, cabin, and roof with group and layer settings. I like the smokestack seam on the back like nylon stockings.)
I don't like how any free slicer handles seams, but Cura lets you use a local coordinate system, which would allow you to print multiple items with the seams in the same place. PrusaSlicer has a beta feature that lets you paint the seam where you want. That looks like it is going to be a killer feature!

Vicky, Thanks for explaining that. I have failed many times to put a seam on a flat surface, but the reasoning makes sense.
Re: Precision placement of Z-Seam on single and multiple objects.
Would it be possible to do something similar like prusaslicer?, where you can "paint" on the model to place the seam?

Please, please, please look in to adding this feature. There are countless times where I just want to put my seem at the back in the middle of a flat surface.

Re: Precision placement of Z-Seam on single and multiple objects.
For belt printer, there's an option to place the seam at the center of belt wall edges. We are still working on developing the options for placing seam on the other edges for other types of printer.

Hi, Any news on this as we also need that option urgently for our work with the Pro3 Plus.
Free Z-Seam placement is the way to go.
Thanks!

We have added this request into developing list.
Re: Precision placement of Z-Seam on single and multiple objects.
Almost 2 years since this request just in the thread. This is by far the worst feature or lack of a feature in this slicer. Is the development team really working on this or are the just saying they are because they gave up.

Free (painted) Seam placement is also my most needed feature in ideamaker. I tried everything but there are always jumps in the seam without any need. I tried prusaslicer and there I can put the seam perfectly where I want it.
But the software does not work so good with my raise3d pro3 plus...

Free (painted) Seam placement feature has been added into our developing list and we are going to work on it in Q2.

Hi! Still normal, straight line seam is not available in ideaMaker? I am new with Raise3D, but now wondering, how to generate normal, usable seam as all slicers can do? I don't need crooked seam on the visible side.

I believe that setting is still on the developer's list at the moment.
The current workaround that can help with placing the seam in a more uniform place would be to adjust your layer start point setting to Auto > reflex or convex corner or, use a fixed position layer start point.
