E2 Firmware Updates
E2 Firmware Updates
What happened to all the change requests? One update per year without improving the printer? Is that your claim raise 3d ? i find it poor. maybe you should at least set the prices to a lower level.
Does anyone else agree with me?
Why is there no cheap extruder update for E2 customers? Do you really think someone who has an E2 will buy the more expensive e2cf? Rather, another printer is used, e.g. Prusa xl

PRUSA XL with the enclosure has great potential, but isn't shipping until 1Q 2023, in small quantities.
But yeah, PRUSA's constant, great support with new firmware many times a year puts RAISE3D to shame.

Re: E2 Firmware Updates
That's exactly how I see it. The service has dropped very badly.
In most cases, problems are no longer asked for reasons of time, since one would like to come to a result. If premium prices are required, the service must also be premium. No small user buys a current model every year to be up to date. Other manufacturers can now do better in terms of price/performance ratio.
Many private users also work professionally with 3D printing. When making a new purchase, the experience of the user makes a major contribution to the purchase decision. That doesn't exactly speak for a raise at the moment.
The supply of spare parts, especially individual extruder parts, should also be reconsidered.

There is a E2 firmware release scheduled for this year.
Any discussion regarding to new features to be added to E2 firmware is welcome.

Some stuff that I would love to see include:
- - MOVE THE BED TO THE FRONT WHEN PAUSING, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, THIS SHOULD NOT BE A HARD CHANGE. YOU CAN DO IT ON A STOP, YOU CAN DO IT ON A PAUSE.
- Live Z-offset babystepping (for example, if you see your first layer is coming out too far while printing the skirt, a button to drop the Z in 0.01mm increments while it's actively printing)
- Ability to cancel objects even in non-sequential printing (this would probably require tagging of gcode lines in comments from Ideamaker to have the printer identify what is a separate object)
- An option to get an even finer mesh for bed leveling (and perhaps a guide to adjusting the bed screws based on the deviation)
- Ability to use right extruder as "backup" when left runs out of filament
- Ability to turn off one filament sensor only instead of both
- A built-in Linear Advance calibration routine using the line method
- An option to enter total end-weight of a print so the printer can compare against expected weight and adjust the density of a filament. For example, if IdeaMaker/Raisecloud suggests the print to take 350g of filament based on an entered 1.24g/cm^3 density, and after printing, it actually took 300g, we can calculate the accurate density with a proportion.
- A "preheat before printing" timer where the bed gets brought up to temp and left to sit there to bring the chamber to temp, before printing begins. Useful for warp-prone materials that need the heat.
Some bugs that have been around include:
- Coming out of "power saving" may sometimes not turn on the LEDs
Changes to the tuning settings during a print sometimes take a while to come into effect
Stopping/Pausing a print while the ABL is running before printing hangs the printer

Live Baby-Steps for the z-Offset is really a good stuff.
Re: E2 Firmware Updates
Actually, I'm happy with my E2 now and don't need any more updates, I do them myself
. Original Duet 3 makes it possible. not a worse made clone.

Fix the bug where the files don't update if you're not on the print screen on the Raise3D window. You have to do something like delete a file or sort by ascending, then sort by descending for the file you uploaded to appear. It's been a bug for as long as I've had the E2s, and it's really annoying.
Also, allow calibration prints with whatever material is loaded and with different sized nozzles. I do calibration manually because the nice built in one is just too restricted and not made for real-life. I've seen this suggestion many times, but every firmware still doesn't have it implemented. The last one they made steps in the right direction, but still fell way short.
Make it so ALL the fans automatically turn off once a print finishes and the extruder hotend cools off completely. Running fans just because the machine is on is dumb and annoying. When you start a print, they turn on again.

The E2 printer calibration screen has the option for changing your nozzle diameter so long as you're on the latest up-to-date version of RaiseTouch.
As for your other concern with the material types, the calibration steps that are involved here are for when the printer is initially being set up or when a new hotend/nozzle is introduced so it will only go over:
1. Left and Right hotend Z offset
2. Bed probing (which helps in seeing if the probe is working along with seeing if the bed is properly leveled)
3. X&Y offsets & X&Y offset test print.
These tests are made with PLA in mind as it's a fairly easy and quick material to work with as opposed to ABS, PETG, etc (some materials need drying or more time to heat up the bed so PLA is a faster way to help calibrate the printer. This is also why 2 rolls of PLA are included with the purchase of the printer).
If you later change your material type, these calibration adjustments would transfer over to whatever material you're using and would work the same no matter what material you have. The X&Y offsets will not change if you then start using TPU or PETG. The same goes for your Z offset too. Please keep in mind that this calibration wizard is meant to calibrate the printer and not meant to calibrate your materials. Material tuning should always be done within your ideaMaker template.
You also have the option to use the approved 3rd party materials listed on our open filament program since they also have premade templates associated with the listed materials. This helps with eliminating some of the work involved when tuning a material in as most of the work has been done: https://www.ideamaker.io/ofpMaterials.html
Lastly, the issue that was pointed out isn't exactly a bug, but rather the print tab just needs to be refreshed. The current workaround for this is to just briefly back out of the print tab's window and then go back in so that the updated files populate. But I do think we should add in something like a refresh selection on both the USB storage and local storage windows so I'll bring this up to our raiseTouch team as a feature request.

If it doesn't display the files correctly, that's a bug. Period. It updates properly if I leave it on the print screen. It only doesn't if I'm NOT on the print screen when the files are updated.
Also, what about turning off the fans when a print is concluded and the temperatures have gone down on the hotends? SUPER annoying to have the fans running just because the machine is on.

The hotend fans are being supplied a constant 12V when the printer is on so they currently cannot be controlled via the touchscreen, however, there is an Alpha firmware update that's currently being tested that has a similar feature as the Pro3 printer where the side cooling fans and HEPA fan can be automatically toggled off after a set amount of time. This does not include the hotend fan at the moment, but I can send this to our team as a feature request so that they can see about including the hotend fan in this setting too.

Shutting off 2 of the 3 fans after a print is done would still be an improvement, so yesplease.
And if they can just cut power to the entire hotend when not in use to kill the fans, that'd be great, too.

Re: E2 Firmware Updates
Hi,
I would love to see updated printer profiles to support 0.6 nozzles by default.
Also, I would love to see the E2 get as much support as the Pro2 and get the Hyperspeed upgrade.
It is disappointing that an expensive printer like the E2 doesn't get upgrades like this.

Thank you for the feedback.
As far as hyperspeed, there is a potential issue with implementing this on the E2 (more on that here: https://forum.raise3d.com/viewtopic.php ... ion#p70251). So far, that is all the information we know.

We're in September of 2023 now. Is the single E2 firmware update for all of 2023 still coming?

That was the plan since the last time we received an update on this from our team, however, the end of this year is approaching so I will be asking for an update to see if this is still the case or not. I will post their response here.

Re: E2 Firmware Updates
Ye I have the latest firmware (tripple checked that) and I do not have the option to select the nozzle diameter when doing the calibration process. I tried several times to update it all over again and no luck. This screenshot on this post is a mystery to me.

I would like to mention that if you're referencing the auto-update selection on the touchscreen, it may not be up to date. The auto-update feature within the touchscreen UI isn't the best as it will sometimes let the user know that they're already on the latest update when they're not. The latest touchscreen version for the E2 printer at the moment is RaiseTouch version 1.5.1.306

Yes I am aware. I downloaded it on a disk and "printed" it. It is the same version 306

That is odd as it should reflect the nozzle selection when starting the calibration wizard. Would you be able to provide a serial log? That way I can bring this up to our team as it may be a bug. This can be done by inserting a USB drive into your printer's touchscreen:
- Select the gear wheel icon on the top right of the touchscreen
- Next, select "Machine" then "More settings"
- Lastly, tap on "Serial port log" and then tap on the "export" selection (select the inserted USB)
