Gantry not staying level

Postby mike105105 » Thu Nov 11, 2021 3:23 pm

Been having an issue with the gantry not staying level. The right side always ends up lower than the left. Things have been lubricated but hasn't helped. We have to do an x-axis level up before starting each print, and if lucky the print will complete before the left right difference gets bad enough to ruin the print.

Any known fixes for this issue?

In this case, I recommend creating a support ticket so that you can speak with one of our techs about this issue and we can work through what is occurring. You can open the ticket here https://help.raise3d.com/support/home

Well I would prefer to keep this discussion on the forum so anyone else that may experience this issue will know what to do.

For now I have removed the z axis motor/leadscrew assemblies and fully cleaned/lubed them. I also added a slight bump to the drive current. So far it seems to be behaving itself over the past few days of printing, but further testing is needed to verify that it stays that way.

If you would like to keep this on the forum we can and I recommend run simple mode levleing 2x then move z up to 200 then run simple again and send pictures of the results so we can see if they are consistant.

Ok, I can say with fairly good certainty that it is losing steps on the right with mesh compensation enabled. If I disable mesh compensation I can do weeks of prints at almost 24-7 duty cycle without the gantry going out of level. Once I enable mesh compensation it only takes a few prints for it to go out. Maybe the microsteps are too fine for whatever drag is on the right leadscew. I have disassembled, cleaned, and lubed the screws but it hasn't made much of a difference. Is there a way to adjust the microstepping of the Z motors so I can decrease it?

Thank you for the update. Can I have you check the steps per mm and voltages of the z-axis by clicking the gear icon in the top right corner→ click more settings → click hardware and you should find steps per unit and voltages? Below are the expected values.

Default printing acceleration mm/s² 800
Default travel acceleration mm/s² 1500
Max acceleration X mm/s² 1000
Max acceleration Y mm/s² 500
Max acceleration Z mm/s² 100
Max acceleration E mm/s² 3000
Max speed X mm/s 150
Max speed Y mm/s 150
Max speed Z mm/s 16
Max speed E mm/s 50
Homing speed X mm/s 34
Homing speed Y mm/s 34
Homing speed Z mm/s 10
Axis step per unit X step/mm 1280
Axis step per unit Y step/mm 1280
Axis step per unit Z step/mm 12800
Axis step per unit E step/mm 4300
Microstepping 256
Jerk X mm/s 8
Jerk Y mm/s 5
Jerk Z mm/s 0.4
Jerk E mm/s 5
Drive Current X ma 1200
Drive Current Y ma 900
Drive Current Z ma 900
Drive Current E ma 800

Yeah everything is the same except z drive current, I bumped that to 1000 as an experiment to see if it would help...it did not.

Thank you for the update. Can I have you try performing a simple mode bed leveling, then can I have you run a print with mesh compensation then rerun the simple mode bed leveling then send me the Serial port log by clicking the gear icon in the top right corner → click more settings→ then click serial port log and send that to me.

Sorry for the delay, been very busy. Here is the log file. I did 2 prints because it really starts showing after more than 1. I have been printing constantly with mesh turned off and this issue hasn't shown, but 2 prints with it on and the tilt is noticeable in the graph. A lower microstepping on the z would probably minimize the issue. I have lubed and cleaned everything multiple times and it hasn't helped.

Thank you for the file. At this point the amount of troubleshooting that can be done via the forums is running low and I think the best option for you here would be to create a support ticket at https://help.raise3d.com as then one of our techs can go a bit more in-depth into fixing the issue.
