Is there anyway to not have a shell on my print. Looking in Ideamaker if you drag the bar all the way left....it will sit at one.
Just seems like im wasting plastic with shells and I dont want it.
Shell a must?

May I ask the reason why the shells bother you?
If there is no shell, the print will become a part only grid inside, no outline to build.

No big reason, it just feels like im wasting plastic and doing a lot of cleanup....like ALOT.
I am printing big though

Re: Shell a must?
Do you have a picture of what you mean ?
I am starting to thing you might mean the wipewall for dual extrusion prints ?
A shell should be nice and clean and require no cleanup (except maybe the one little thread that went out of place on a move or a little fuzz if you print a bit too hot)

This is exactly what I mean.
Re: Shell a must?
I'm really curious what kind of results you expect to get from this. Your entire print would look like the outer edge of the raft if you printed it with no shells. It would also not have accurate dimensions unless you set the infill overlap to 100%. It would have no smooth finish, and a lot of the overall strength of the print would be gone. Unless you however printed the object at 100% infill and it would still have a horrible surface finish.
Re: Shell a must?
im interested in only printing infill.
i'll be vacuuming bagging the parts in carbon-fiber, so i just need the honeycomb shape of the part, no shell.
can it be done??

Re: Shell a must?
Unless the model is all shaped with big flat surface from beginning to the end, or only infill structure can hard build out the total outline of the model with tiny structures.
Re: Shell a must?
@Regatta: I have done exactly as you suggest (all infill, no exterior shells) for vacuforming, and it worked wonderfully. But I did not do this on a Raise3D N2 or using IdeaMaker. No reason why this should not work, though, in my opinion.
Re: Shell a must?
I just tried Simplify 3D with zero shells. It allowed that as a setting, but didn't print anything at all - no shells, no infill.
Re: Shell a must?
I just checked; it appears that Cura can do this - at least the Layer View shows what I think you are seeking.
Recent Cura also has a setting that might help for this requirement: where to place the outer "skin"- skin extrusion lines completely inside the stl surface, centered on the surface, or outside it. The latter might help in defining your imaginary "surface" for precision in the size of the final covered piece.
If nothing else, it's a nice way to look at infill patterns.
