Why does my printer keep trying to connect to the Raise3d server

Postby sperman » Tue Mar 24, 2020 1:37 pm

I noticed in the logs of my firewall that my printer is attempting to communicate with your server at 218.244.146.143:80.

Why is my printer doing this, and what kind of information are you gathering?

How do I turn this feature off?

I noticed in the logs of my firewall that my printer is attempting to communicate with your server at 218.244.146.143:80.

I'm going to say that's the raise3D cloud service.

Why is my printer doing this, and what kind of information are you gathering?

Because you loaded and are running a cloud enabled version of the Raise3D Raisetouch application that runs the LCD control panel and gcode streaming server on the printer.
Information is machine status, temperatures, and so forth. Unless you upload gcode to the cloud or slice in the cloud , your designs and files are all still local to your printer.

In addition, recent updates also enabled an auto update raisetouch version feature, so even if not cloud API communications, recent versions obviously are checking and talking to a raise 3D server.

And no way to turn this feature Off? That's quite a security exposure.

The mean reason that the printer is trying to connect to the server is for checking whether the version is the most updated one and do time calibration. Otherwise, the printer won't know whether it is using the latest version of the version and the time of print will be off after some time.
For the moment, there's no option in touchscreen that you can disable this feature. You can log into the screen via SSH and delete MXCUpdater and MXCTimeSync under /opt/Raise3D.

We will add the disable option into touchscreen in future versions.
Sorry for the inconvienance.
