What’s the best way to change out filament

Postby Helipilot » Fri Nov 15, 2019 2:58 am

I have a n2 with bond tech extruder upgrade. I remember in the beginning there can be an issue changing filaments in that when you remove the filament out there can be some stringing or dried filament left in the cold zone....
What’s the best procedure in changing filament ??

It is also recommend to heat the nozzle up, load a few old filament out then unload the filament so there will have less old filament left inside nozzle.

If you are going from a filament with a lower melting point to a filament with a higher melting point just feed the new filament in until it runs clear through the nozzle.

Don't ever do a cold swap...its a great way to leave residue or worse break the filament in the nozzle and end up doing a disassemble or some other time costly maintenance.

If you are going from a filament with a higher melting point to a filament with a lower melting point heat to the higher temperature regardless and feed the new filament. If you're worried about residue a quick insertion of metal push rod can help move things along.

Lazy method: If your timing is good you can just live splice the two filaments while during startup or while/if any skirt/brim/raft is being put down.
