Layer splitting

Postby Tigerchick » Mon Oct 29, 2018 10:24 pm

I have been having an issue with some of my prints. I am getting a layer that splits but seems to happen on taller prints vs shorter prints. I am attaching pictures of the latest item it printed. I am using matterhackers build series PLA which seems to print better at higher temps currently printing at 224c. It seems to only happen once during the print then continues normally. I am at a loss as to why it does it. I am new to printing only 2 months in so trying to figure out what the problem is. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Too me it looks as if you are printing with a nozzle temp a little too high. a nozzle strike or extruder skip can cause this. here is a good site to check out

What is your infill? It can be also cooling issue or temp. shrink. Check your bed also. It could be Z axis also... in some part can be not leveled right. What about platform additions? Raft, brim?

If it's happening at that height specifically (if you have other prints to compare it to to verify), it could be something off with the z-axis. Something may be interfering or causing it to skip ever-so-slightly, creating that gap in the layer.
