Filament flow

Postby rchotdogpilot » Thu Sep 21, 2023 3:35 am

Is the Pro2 supposed to detect filament flow/movement, or only a filament runout issue. As in, it detects "yes I have a filament here" or " yes the filament is moving through me"? I have had multiple prints and have wasted nearly a whole roll of Raise3D Premium ABS filament because the filament gets "tied up" on the spool and the printer continues to run, even though the filament is no longer "flowing" or being drawn into the print head. This is starting to become VERY frustrating. I have updated to Hyperspeed, but it is only the original Beta release from maybe March of 2023. It has been updated since.

The filament run-out sensors on our lineup of printers only detect the absence of filament. Unfortunately, it does not have the ability to detect if material is still moving through it or not.

If this tangle in the material has not yet been discussed on a support ticket, I recommend opening one up as we'd like to document the material's batch number. Although tangled material from the factory is rare, it does occur on occasion so we'd like to document this issue through the proper channel. A support ticket can be made here:

Lastly, a tangle in the spool can also accidentally occur if the tip of the material is let go of or becomes too loose at one point. The extra slack will cause the filament to tangle and this can also create a knot that travels through the roll as the material is being printed, ultimately stopping at one point.
