Lowering Print Platform during Filament Reload

Postby Vagulus » Sun Jul 21, 2019 11:22 am

When myPro2 runs out of filament in the middle of a job it parks the print head at home but does not lower the Printing Platform. This means that thePreload phase of Unload, then the Load phase of filament replacement creates a large clot of extruded material around the nozzle. This, in turn, causes problems when the machine resumes the printing job.

Can I lower the Printing Platform so that the clot is not created (and extruded material can be removed) and, if so, how?
If I cannot lower the platform without aborting the printing job perhaps Raise3D should look at providing a way to do so!

Same here. I hate it. I'm surprised such expensive 3D printed has so poor designed software. It does not lower platform on filament change, or when ran out of filament, or when loading and unloading filament. Open source cheap 3D printers are much much smarter and user friendly in terms of control program and features. The only benefit of proprietary designed 3D printers is some high quality mechanical components, but proprietary software sucks.

Am I to assume from three days without the suggestion of a solution that there is, in fact, no solution?
Does anybody have a way to lower the Printing Platform when installing a new reel of filament after having run out?

IliaT, you can lower the filament in your other cases (well, if you have a Pro2 you can). Go to Utilities and press the Down arrow for the Z axis.

I would assume this is an issue that occurs when you have only printed a few layers? Otherwise i don't see why you would want to lower the build platform? You could also just clean the nozzle before restarting the print can you not?

I have run into this same issue and was surprised as well to realize there was no solution to this other than frantically try to use some tweezers and pull the blob out as soon as possible.

And yes. This happened after only printing a few layers. But it was already hours wasted and I didn't want to start over. I didn't realize I was that short on material. Yes, I as the user should have been more aware, but the software should automatically lower the bed to a predetermined distance from the nozzle for this action no matter what.

This is a miss in the software or firmware for the printer.

This is issue not after printing a few layers but after printing less than 20-40 mm height at least. This is also issue after printing unlimited amount of layers if the part is big or close to the nozzle purge corner.

I too ran into this issue recently, and had to quickly use tweezers while the filament was pouring down. Hopefully there is a solution.

Sorry for the slow response.
I think the three posts following your last one cover this issue.

Yes, you can do some frantic work with a pair of tweezers but the Pro2 is supposed to be a professional machine and professional-standard functionality is to be expected - by me, anyway.

I'd like to hear from Raise3D on this matter.
