Print Shifting

Postby Insomnia » Tue Aug 28, 2018 3:35 pm

I experienced an instance of Print Shifting on a 10 hour print. In the final layers of my print, the printer shifted its center nearly 1/16" on the Y axis. So far this is an isolated instance and I hope it remains so, but this is a disastrous problem if it reoccurs.

I've seen this before on one of our lesser printers, but it only occurred following a power failure and it was because the printer failed to resume accurately. This is not the case here as this printer has not experienced a power failure, so I have no idea what the cause is, but it's a problem if it reoccurs.

If you can find any nozzle hitting point on the layer before shifting happens?

That's going to be difficult. It's impossible to monitor a 10 hour print in that way and the camera is so blurry that it's useless. The shifting hasn't duplicated, so I'll hope it was a fluke. If it happens a second time I'll start to worry.

If you haven't thrown the failed parts, check the layers before shifting happens. Sometimes you can nozzle hitting points from the model.
