Raise3d n2 hardware mods

Postby LoganLuckLess » Thu Sep 23, 2021 7:11 pm

Our company owns an n2 plus that has been cranking out parts for years with little issue. When I was hired we decided to modernize the printer to where I would say our old n2 plus is similar or better than the new pro 3 printers just announced. I have posted a lot of the mods on thingiverse and these are in no particular order,

Bltouch,
tmc 2208 with uart control and lin advance,
quieter fans, https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4960526
gcode controlled cooling with custom duct, https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4960505
filament run-out
HD webcam,
PWM bed heater control
pronterface terminal connection with usb switcher, https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4972602
spring steel bed with interchangeable plates,
and various other smaller mods to help with things like build plate alignment.

If anyone has any questions regarding any of these upgrades or would like copies of files such as firmware source let me know and I will be more than happy to help anyone.

I'm wondering why you have a usb switcher there: Do you really switch between the on-board touchscreen and an external computer that often? Which software and firmware are you using? I'm especially interested in the firmware on the motion control board.

I use the switcher all the time it is legitimately my favorite feature. I use a custom blend of marlin for the firmware and pronterface to connect to the machine. I use this mostly to adjust the Z offset for the bltouch and communicate over uart with the 2208s. It is so much easier to adjust an offset when you can set the movement to relative and back it off by 500th of a mill.

Great stuff, thank you for sharing. I definitely will implement some of these mods on my machine. I would love to do them all however I’m still learning and not brave enough to attempt some of these changes. Maybe one day soon.

Thank you.

Logan,
I been printing horrible quality prints on my 2 N2+ duals sense they came out. I have the shitty 9 point frame for the pot metal thin aluminum bed.
I have spent years modding the bed with the over spring & under spring methods from 2017-2018. I added thicker metal and huge washers to stop much of the flex. But leveling the bed is a absolute joke.
I like to print what I need. So my basic bed temps are 40c for PLA & 110 for ABS. On the buildtak.
If you level the bed while it's cold it will be off 0.2mm-0.6mm
If you level the bed at 40c it will be off 0.3 at the min in some spots.
If you level the bed at 110c you can never print anything below that temp or the nozzle sometimes would even contact the build plate..

Enough of my rant.
I remember ages ago everyone talked about a 8-9mm thick aluminum plate mod with an upgraded heated bed & possibly a larger power supply?
I even stumbled on someone modding the board to 32bit?

Please who ever still uses this relic help me spend 2x more for mods to get this printer to print like it was advertised when I donated my down payment of my house to Kickstarter.

I'm interested in all the mods that fix all the mistakes.

Logan,

I am super interested in the modifications you have made. Specifically the firmware. I dont have a BL Touch on my N2+ but can I install the firmware and give it a try or will it not work properly until I include the BL Touch ?

I am having some problem that I cannot fix with my printer and at this point I am willing to try just about anything.

Thanks
