Connect N1 with Ethernet Cable

Postby Deepspaceobject » Tue Apr 07, 2020 6:51 pm

Hello, I am having real trouble connecting to my N1 from my iMac via ethernet cable. It was working fine, I think until the last computer update. Having tried to set up the IP address, router etc.. again from scratch I am not sure I have all of the parameters correct. Originally I found the details through this forum and I remember that if your router is say 189.681.1.1 then you would setup the cable on 189.681.2.1 but cannot remember if it needs to be DHCP.

I would be grateful if someone could point me to that document again?

Would you like to help confirm that you are trying to connect the machine directly to your computer via ethernet?
Or connecting the machine to the network then connecting your computer under the same network?

Hi Vicky, connecting the machine directly to my MAC computer with an ethernet cable. It was working fine for months but I have lost the settings that I had under network.

Set computer's stastic IP to be:
ip:192.168.0.120

subnet mask:255.255.255.0

router: 192.168.0.1

dns: 192.168.0.1

Printer' to be:
ip:192.168.0.130

subnet mask:255.255.255.0

router: 192.168.0.120

dns: 192.168.0.120

Then ping 192.168.0.130 on computer to get the checking result.

Make sure the Router and DNS IP should be the same as the IP of your company.

Hi Vicky, I tried the settings you suggested and it did allow me to connect to the N1 printer ok but was then unable to connect to the internet with the computer! my routers IP is 192.168.1.1, I also tried 192.168.2.1 but same problem.

The IP numbers are important and it seems like you are mixing them up a bit. You say your router's ip address is 192.168.1.1 if that's the case then everything within your network must have a unique address of this form 192.168.1.X (where X is any number between 2 and 255)

If you want to use your computer to connect the printer via Ethernet Cable and connect internet at the same time, you may can only connect you computer via Wi-Fi then. And I believe the settings for Wireless should be different from the settings for Ethernet.
If you are not sure how to figure it out, please attach the network settings on your computuer for both Wireless and Ethernet and also the Network settings on your printer. We can see how we can help you figure it out.

Hi Vicky,

WiFi:
Computer IP: 192.168.1.13
Router: 192.168.1.1
Subset Mask: 255.255.255.0
Using DHCP

Ethernet:
IP: 192.168.1.120
Router: 192.168.1.1
Subset Mask: 255.255.255.0
DNS: 192.168.1.1

Printer:
IP: 192.168.1.130
Router: 192.168.1.120
Subset Mask: 255.255.255.0
DNS: 192.168.1.120

The Ethernet is shown as connected in Network settings and the printer is shown as connected but I cannot connect to the printer from Idea Maker!

I would suggest use Ethernet to connect Printer and Wi-Fi to connect network.
Ethernet:
IP: 192.168.0.120
Router: 192.168.0.1
Subset Mask: 255.255.255.0
DNS: 192.168.0.1

Printer:
IP: 192.168.0.130
Router: 192.168.0.120
Subset Mask: 255.255.255.0
DNS: 192.168.0.120
