Compare .stl geometry with sliced gcode geometry

Postby efw380 » Mon Oct 28, 2019 6:23 pm

Hi,
I'm looking for a viewer of the differences between the original .stl-geometry and the printed geometry.
For example, the original contour is looking like the following:
original.png

With an edge width of zero.
After slicing the contour is looking like this:
sliced.png

Now I wanna know where is the original contour of the .stl file?
Does anyone know a solution?

Kind regards,
Fritz

Seems there are some unkown small figures on model being detected by ideaMaker causes the issue.
Please try slice one more time with Check Thin Wall option disabled under Other tab under Advanced and compare the result.

Hi Vicky,

thanks for your fast reply. Unfortunately, it is mandatory for us to get as close as possible to the original.stl geometry. Therefore, I already reduced the minimal extrusion width for thin walls down to 1%. Due to the fact that the wall thickness is going to be zero. But until now it is quite difficult for me to identify the "real" boundary of the printed part. I thought (hoped) the printer exceeds the part edge a bit so that I can grind the part afterwards just a bit to get the final contour.

So there are two questions now.
1st — Is there any way to blend the gcode geometry over the original.stl geometry to recognize differences?
2nt — Is there any possibility to add material at such thin features to ensure the outer contour of the part?

Kind regards and many thanks for your great support!
Fritz

Would you like to share your .idea and .gcode files with us to have a better understanding?

We would recommend you disable ThinWall, as the two coners on the edge of your model are too fine to be printed out properly with ThinWall.
And ThinWall will normally be printed out with one single extrusion line as isolated part from the model which may leave defects on model as well.

Okay, thank you for clarify. So in this case I'll for sure have a difference between the.stl file and the printed part.
Is there any software solution which is capable to load a.stl file and a gcode file to visualize that fault?
