HOTEND set screws

Postby walshlg » Mon Jul 17, 2017 12:52 am

I had to replace my thermocouples and was extremely frustrated -> they are held in by short little m1.5 set screws. Into Aluminum! They were, predictably, bound in and could only be removed with a brand new Allen wrench.

PLEASE redesign the hot end block to use bigger screws. Personally, I favor M3 cap screws (there is no good reason to use set screws other than aesthetics) but at least go to a minimum of M2.5. The M1.5 will always bind and quickly destroy most Allen wrenches and lead to more broken isolation tubes.

I second this. I have 3 heat blocks with permanently installed m1.5 grub screws. No screw extractors that small survive the torque required to remove the stripped grub screw.
I'm planning on machining my own heat blocks, because I've not been pleased with the r3d versions

Mine (purchased this fall) has M3 screws that use a 1.5mm hex wrench. I replaced the brass screws that go into the filament tube with brass-tipped steel screws.
