Pro2: Filament movement sensor

Postby atelieroechsli » Tue Jul 16, 2019 3:18 pm

After some Jam problems with the left extruder I would like to have a filemant movement sensor instead of the current filament sensor at the Pro2.

The problem is: the filament jams and the printer starts printing "air" instead of PLA. I usually check the print several times a day and can stop it via the app. But it would be better the printer would stop itself and send a notification. So we could react faster.

It would also be helpful to have a camera that films higher than potato quality...

A sensor could detect lack of filament movement, or detect clicking in the extruder.

Really, how many HD movies of Baby Groot being printed do we need?

Hi,
i also looking for an helpfull solution to detect correct moving of the filament.
Today the printer only detects runout. If the filamanent stops moving and it cloggs then there is no message or monitoring.

I'm looking araound and found some solutions. The most interesting is from Duet3D. A laser scanner monitors the correct moving of the filament depending of the real printsettings. Very cool.
Please use Google with these keywords and read the wiki: Duet3D Filament Monitor Laser Version

Could this also be possible come to work with our Raise3D Pro2?
Thanks for any comments.

Please sorry my english, its not my native language.

Yes this is a big problem and destroys prints.
Please add an replacement sensor as optional buyable hardware!

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has thought this feature would be extremely useful...
Better yet, a more robust printer that doesn't clog constantly.

Seriously thinking about selling these printers and purchasing a Stacker....

If you print for hours and your print crashes like this, its terrible.
as a sensor addon raise3d could keep printer price low and earn cash from people who grade up later.
and people who own an pro2 will be happy. anyway pro3 should have this from stock.

So, this happened now to me twice in a row - the printer started to print air as it was not able to pull the filament to the printhead. I lost a print and a lot of time. That's why I'm asking for a filament movement sensor. I added a picture, so you can see the problem. There is a bend at the end of the filament.

Extruder is unable to pull to the print head

The filament was Raise3d Colorful in both cases. Batch: ZP20190307PM175042. I have another spool of that batch at least. I hope that will not happen again.

and if you try to print over tubes from polybox its hard to pull and will not work most times

Most commonly this is going to happen when the filament becomes tangled and the extruder can no longer pull it smoothly. It is very rare for a spool of material to arrive tangled from the manufacture as the only way for a spool to become tangled is if the end it left loose. Please see this video for more info on properly handling filament; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxCFy1ALrvI&t=223s

I have had the same problem as 'atelieroechsli' twice already.
with original Raise filament "Raise3D Premium PLA " ! ! !
After 10 hours of printing on a 15 hour job such a disaster !!!
The problem is the end of the filament roll where it has a slight kink in the filament inside, which is glorifying! It is created during the production process, when rolling up the filament.

But Raise doesn't care ! (sarcasm on) Their filament and runout sensor is so good ! (Sarcasm off)
Ich habe Sie schon auf Duet3D Filament Monitor: Rotating Magnet Version
I have already pointed you to the "Duet3D Filament Monitor: Rotating Magnet Version", which would solve the problem, but you simply don't care, you can sell more filament!
They don't even ask for hardware updates for such an expensive machine, it's just incomprehensible. In any case, it's my last Raise3d printer, then I'd rather buy a cheaper printer and get reasonable support (nice Youtube video has absolutely nothing to do with the problem) and then hardware updates are also possible and offered.

BTT has a smart filament sensor that senses both runout and jams. This would be ideal. They just released a new version.

Any ideas on how to adapt the BTT to a Pro2?

Raise3D should help customers to upgrade their old printers or make a very valueable offer to sell the old one or trade in.
