Re: Mortal Kombat Scorpion Mask & Amor

Really nice work! Curious -- I do a lot of reverse engineering these days but it's usually in an engineering context. When you're designing things like the mask, what's your process for fitting it to the scanned data? Do you just model it close? Do you snap it to the scanned geometry? Thanks! Well ...

Re: Mortal Kombat Scorpion Mask & Amor

Scorpion Shoulder Armor has been quiet a challenge so far. Two different designs and numerous sizing changes. After a couple of tweaks to the models and some failed prints, I got all the final parts printed. This weekend we glue, sand and prime! These is the final design that I decided to print. 352...

Mortal Kombat Scorpion Mask & Amor

I have been working on this project on and off for a long time. This is one of the reasons I got into 3d printing in the first place. I started by going to a local studio and getting my body scanned then turned into scan data. From there I started to model the armor on top of my 3d model. The painte...

Re: Life Size Apocalypse Bust

Hey Rob, I ended up being able to put 4 pounds of weight. I think once I design the final base along with the weights it will hold up like a champ. The amount of prep work is massive on this! One of the seems on the armor i have to do some more sanding on to get it completely smooth. Seams are somew...

Re: Life Size Apocalypse Bust

I decided to do a video update on the Neck Armor for my 3d Printed Apocalypse Bust. Bust was not initially able to balance itself without possibly being glued to the base, which is not something I want to do at this point. I decided to front-load the Neck Armor and thus had to re-design parts of it....

Re: Life Size Apocalypse Bust

Rob, I have been 3d Modeling since 2004. Started out with Maya. I have used Softimage (which i really liked before it got killed off), Houdini, 3dsMax, Mudbox, Modo and Z-Brush for modeling. I actually prefer Maya (or a primary package) for hard surface. But for concepting, organic modeling or fine ...

Re: Life Size Apocalypse Bust

Thanks Rob! Yea the lower part of the bust was printed upside down so the slope was flipped and printed out great. I also dove in head first into a really big print. I only had one other smaller print under my belt before this so this has been quiet a learning experience. By the way, great work on y...

Thanks! But some areas were all but smooth. Just a great deal of post processing to smooth it out. Take a look a my last post.

Re: Life Size Apocalypse Bust

I had some issue printing on the overhangs of this torso piece. If you look at the first picture, you will also notice almost like a blob formation towards the bottom. Luckily location wise they are not very visible. While I have smoothed most of this on via hours of sanding and post process, I woul...

Re: Life Size Apocalypse Bust

The evolution of this torso piece. 1.5 cans of filler primer later and ridiculous amounts of sanding. Looks like this bad boy is ready to prime!

Re: Life Size Apocalypse Bust

JL Mussi, First of all, excellent piece of work!! What was the printer you used? How long did it take to print the head? I would appreciate very much your kind answer. Best regards JL Mussi, Would you please tell me? Thx CJ Sorry I missed your first post. The head took about 1kg of material and alm...

Re: Life Size Apocalypse Bust

Please share your support material settings? Is there a particular piece you want the setting on? Is there a way to pull your print setting off the gcode file itself? I kept overriding my print templates. Currently there is no way to find out the print settings from .gcode file. We are trying to de...

Re: Life Size Apocalypse Bust

Making good some progress on my 3d printed bust of Apocalypse. There's another piece of the neck armor in the printer as we speak. Nothing is glued at this point, waiting to have all the parts printed out to see how they fit. wip_lite_06.jpg wip_lite_04.jpg wip_lite_03.jpg wip_lite_02.jpg wip_lite_0...
