Re: How I more than doubled my print speed while increasing accuracy

My experience with Igus bearings is that they have to be fitted perfectly with just the right amount of compression to make them perfect - you can't just throw them in any old mount - especially a 3d printed one - it will work but there will be slop. Theres also a very fine line between compressing ...

Re: Printing metal and CF filled filaments

Not sure what "hardened nozzle" you're using using - if it's the one from Raise you will blow the tip out of it in less the 1kg of filament. You really need at least hardened tool steel (A2) or a ruby nozzle to use carbon or glass-filled filaments for any length of time. Even the A2 nozzle...

Love it - prints aren't as perfect looking as other filaments but it's strong as sh*t - especially printed bone dry and with post annealing. Print it hot.

Dow Evolv3D USM...

Anyone have any first hand experience with this stuff - seems like the holy grail for support material. I have a spool coming today to play with - going to through it in with Taulman 910 and see what happens.... https://www.dow.com/en-us/industries/industrial-and-infrastructure/evolv3d/evolv3d-usm?u...

Re: NylonX printing on Raise3D Pro V2

I print a lot of Nylon variants from Taulman and have printed a lot of Carbon nylon from 3dxtech on my other printers as there is no viable nozzle for the Pro2. Don't bother with Buildtak - it's just useless. PEI with glue stick works fine for nylonx as it doesn't warp as much as say 910. You have t...

Re: How I more than doubled my print speed while increasing accuracy

Not sure how the N2 hot ends mount but I've already designed a 6061-T6 adapter for the Pro2 - it will take about 10mm off the z build height but I'm usually making small parts so I don't care. Looks like I will have to mod the z end stop adjustment to reach higher too. Can't wait to get my favorite ...

Re: How I more than doubled my print speed while increasing accuracy

You could go with a Mosquito hot end and loose even more weight:

Nothing matches it in weight, size or efficiency of the heat break - and you can change nozzles with one hand.

Re: Alternative Slicing Engines?

S3D - Version 5 coming out this summer... apparently. I initially started with S3D as I've been using it for years - then tried IM for a few weeks and after noticing really strange travel sequences on even the simplest of features - like the base layer of a 30% support - back to S3D...

Re: z probe/sensor upgrade

Many of us use multiple build plates/surfaces to go from one print to another quickly - without auto-leveling this is PITA - it would be sooooooo easy to just swallow the ego and admit that a bunch of Chinese grad students developed the best auto-leveling device to date (BLTouch) - simple, accurate,...

Re: Purge Lines

I like to do a little blob and then have the nozzle just move away from it and lower - its faster and cleaner and wastes less filament - something like this - After homing: G1 X5 Y5 Z2.5 F1000; set height and location for blob G1 E2 F500; extrude small blob (2-3mm is usually good) G1 X10 Y10 Z0.3 F2...

Re: Warping, help!

Ditch the BuildTak - it sucks. Try printing in PETG or something else that is less prone to warping. Get PEI or GeckoTek and make sure to gap the nozzle at 180°C for the nozzle and cold for the bed. Would be nice to at least have the ability to adjust z-offset microsteps at the touch screen... you g...

Re: How to disable an extruder for using only one

Can the last known position of the hot ends be written to memory so the printer "knows" the positions of the extruders so it doesn't have to do it's little raise lower dance in the beginning? Or if you must toggle the hot ends, why not just sync the extruders so that it can be done cold? -...

Re: Ideamaker Infill Movement

Usually the way infill is printed is calculated to be the fastest with the least and shortest moves - the skipping around may seem silly but it's actually more efficient depending on the model - a square for example should be printed continuously corner to corner.

Re: Random layer shift via printing.

Are the speed acceleration and jerk setting all the same for both templates? The part looks larger than your test prints so it may be printing faster because of minimal layer time settings. Did you check all of the set screws on all of the axis connections? Is the gantry lubricated well and moving f...

Re: Heating Element - not corresponding with the temp input

You need think about how it works - it's closed loop PID temp control - if the thermocouple is reading room temp the board is going to send full power to the heater to raise the temp until it starts to climb and then adjust the power to reach the set point and stay there. You've opened the loop - th...

Re: Random layer shift via printing.

Almost always mechanical - something's loose somewhere... set screws on all belt gears snug? Any play on extruder or hot ends etc etc - I've found the best way is to move the extruder head and very closely feel for play then try to track down where it's coming from.

Re: Anyone have a Raise3D printer?

The ultimaker does not have direct drive extruders which IMO is a major drawback - crisp retractions, and printing any material are important for me. That's what made the choice between the ultimaker and the R3D for me. Also the second nozzle on the ultimaker is primarily designed for support printi...
