Re: BB-8 1:1 Scale Build

I'm not sure how the guys at the BB-8 Builder's Club do this, but I made the front piece into a power switch. I just took one I already had and modeled a housing and button. It actually works really well. https://photos.smugmug.com/Art/BB-8-11-3D-Print/i-xFm97k6/0/X2/IMG_8560-X2.jpg https://photos.s...

Re: BB-8 1:1 Scale Build

Thank you unhaimlish. I appreciate the comments. So... it's been a while, so time for an update. I've been printing almost non-stop on the body pieces, but have a lot more to go. Meanwhile.... Worked on the metal ring section. I painted with silver, then masked and painted the black accent stripes: ...

Re: BB-8 1:1 Scale Build

Okay, not too much of an update but I figured I'd go ahead and post my progress. I finally painted the underneath section of the head that I applied the XTC-3D coating to. https://photos.smugmug.com/Art/BB-8-11-3D-Print/i-Ht5PhRd/0/X2/IMG_8501-X2.jpg And here's how it turned out. Looks a bit bland, ...

Re: BB-8 1:1 Scale Build

Hi Charles: Yeah, no problem. I'm using a free webcasting app named "OBS" for Mac. It allows you to broadcast from a variety of sources, including an application window. So... With Ideamaker open, just go to the Printer tab and select "Connect to printer". Map that window as a so...

2CNK: Thanks for the complements

Derek: Thank you sir. Yeah, the YouTube channel was mainly for me to keep an eye on it while I'm at work. I was a bit surprised to get some subscribers. :) I'll be happy to make that private if you guys want me to.

Vicki: Not a problem.

Re: BB-8 1:1 Scale Build

lylewaters: Thanks, and sorry for giving the kids ideas. There's readily printable files located at the BB-8 builders Club if you're interested. Thanks. Michael: Thank you sir! Vicky: Thanks. I'm using Hatchbox Silver PLA. I figured the slight metallic would make it easier to see contours easier at ...

Re: Stormtrooper Helmet

Thanks Vicky. I was having some issues with the first few layers staying down, especially on large models. In addition to the higher temps, I've also changed my 1st layer setting down to 10mm/sec. Those may not be the absolute magic numbers, but I haven't had any issues since. I usually turn down my...

Nice! I'm having good results with Hatchbox PLA. You're making me want to give ABS a shot.

BB-8 1:1 Scale Build

Hello guys, First off... this/these models in this thread are NOT my own. Credit goes to the BB-8 Builders Club for the files. There's more to come, but I thought I'd share my build progress here. I'm going to add some electronics, but this will be only a static display. -No movement. Here's an earl...

Re: Stormtrooper Helmet

Thanks Trhuster! Thanks Charles! I don't remember exactly what the estimate said, but I'm guessing about 2/3 of a 1kg roll. I wasted a ton on support though. I will do that part differently next time. This mini helmet is about 7" tall. I've been modeling off/on for maybe 20 years and sent off f...

Stormtrooper Helmet

Hello all, This is my first post. I've had my N2 a little over a week now and it's been running almost nonstop. So far, I love it. I thought I'd take a break to say Hi and show off a model and first (non-test) print. I modeled this in Lightwave a few weeks ago specifically for printing while waiting...
