Re: Upgrading the gantry on my N2 to IDEX

The problem I see is poor return on investment. Yes, I even contemplated myself making an entire new upper frame and XY motion system and there is room for improvement. But, Z is a big problem too, and that requires base modifications to go to a 3 or 4 leadscrew system, and get away from the long un...

Re: Default Printing Speed

Ok so let's go over this because I'm not sure the actual system is FULLY understood. In the slicer, if you put a default speed- that speed is used when NO OTHER speed is defined!! In other words, if you set a default speed of 20mm/s, then when no other layer or feature group setting sets a speed, TH...

Re: gCode Flavour

That said, the harder part for you to get right is the specific gcode starting sequence and ending sequence. Just understand, when you start a print job, the machine is in an UNKNOWN state. The purpose of starting gcode is to take the machine from an unknown state and purposely setup the machine sta...

Re: ideaMaker generates unwanted Bridge Layer

There is a lot in what you have written for me, and anyone else, to digest. My profound thanks for taking so much time and effort in creating your posts. Again, important takeaways for you: #1 Just because an STL displays OK as intended on the screen does not mean it is a good or correct STL. The p...

Re: ideaMaker generates unwanted Bridge Layer

Hopefully, I've answered your: What is causing or what might be causing the bridge and how do I get rid of it? What is causing the bridge? A flaw in your design process where you created an improper object before exporting the STL. Again, the flaw is in the STL, but also really in the CAD before you...

Re: ideaMaker generates unwanted Bridge Layer

Also, an older forum topic https://forum.raise3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=3290 Another good resource for understanding what is happening in CAD design and how that affects the STL and resulting interpretation of the slicing software to generate the gcode. (be sure to click the English flag at the top of ...

Re: ideaMaker generates unwanted Bridge Layer

There are also a few online STL repair tools that check for errors and can repair them- however this is a last resort, not a first fix when you have the CAD and you exported the file, best to fix it in CAD. https://www.formware.co/onlinestlrepair Back in the day, we used Netfabb, but unsure about if...

Re: ideaMaker generates unwanted Bridge Layer

Fix the STl. If you open an STL, but especially one you created in CAD , and when you slice it in preview and you see walls that should not be there, then you messed up in CAD and failed to follow the designing for 3D Printing rules (AKA DRC or Design Rules Check). https://wiki.freecadweb.org/Manua...

Re: a 3d scanner for 3d printing?

Again, what I'm trying to share is how difficult the challenge is of 3D scanning for 3D printing. You said you were new to 3D printing. Given that it's taken me all this time to master and know what I know about 3D printing, the thousands of dollars I've spent in the industry, the countless nights a...

Re: a 3d scanner for 3d printing?

No, you do not need one and no, they do not generally work like the magic you think they are. Background, if you don't know who I am, I started in the early days of 3D printing circa 2009. I've seen the evolution of scanners, spent thousands of dollars and watched this now for all this time. First i...

Re: WHERE is Jetguy?

Who is Jetguy? Jetguy, so named because years ago I bought several surplus military jet engines and proceeded to use them on various vehicle projects. Then, if jet engines and lasers weren't enough hobbies, along with RC vehicles including drones and helicopters, then i got into the very early star...

Re: feed rate question

Piece of practical advice. Determine what your machine can reliably handle. Start with a tool everyone should have in their collective 3D printing toolbox of STL test files https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5573 Specifically the ".5mm thin wall" test STL. Screen Shot 2021-03-12 at 4.01.03 ...

Re: feed rate question

The key is, all changing that does is change the firmware to read in the line of gcode, and take the feed rate target/limit and raise it by 110%. The next part is understanding why the real fact is, your printer won't ever hit 50mm/s on most segments anyway, so raising it won't matter a whole lot de...

Put another way, 110% = turning it up to 11.

Sure, that's why they put the option on the control panel. I do this on a regular basis, I've done it at shows, I've used it on long and short prints alike. I've gone to the "danger zone" of 125% ec699c7ecf558a6cb9f5e6ef2f3ba3b2.jpg You can keep going faster until you can't, either the mac...

Re: Energy Costs

Doing the math wrong. Printing takes a variable amount of time. So just ONLY using per gram value, you are not going to get the true rate and a lot of variation. First, you have setup fee. That is the time you as a skilled expert, take the STL and manipulate it on the build area in the slicer, set t...
