How to free up model from support

What settings do I change to have my models release from the support material more readily. 190613-DenseSupportSticks.png Generally, I am reasonably satisfied with the surface texture of the underside of my models. In this picture it looks pretty rough but it is a very close up picture and the textu...

Re: Change in print surface

Thanks Jetguy Your detailed and informative replies are very much appreciated. I have printed them so I can go over them again and try to absorb all of what you were saying. Experience-based information is invaluable to people like me who are just starting out in this game. Your diagnostic hints are...

Re: Registering scale settings in template

Hi Vicky Dimensions Compensation under Layers is absolute - it's set in millimetres. Scaling in ideaMaker is on the basis of percentage which makes sense because the bigger the object is the more overall shrinkage there will be. To be of any use, Dimensions Compensation under Layers must also be a p...

Re: Change in print surface

My model is 'hanging in the air' because I am trying to find settings which allow:
1. easier removal of the model from the support material;
2. better surface finish where building on support.

It's an experimental issue.

Registering scale settings in template

Calibrating my Pro2 resulted in a set of scale settings which I have to enter in ideaMaker for each item. Such settings, I assume, are filament material dependent, compensating for shrinkage variations between materials. It would be nice if I could record these settings in a template when I am, for ...

Change in print surface

Using Pro2 and eSun PLA+ filament. I made two changes to a template which had previously produced acceptable horizontal surfaces trying to stop overextrusion of support material. I changed the Support Flowrate from 100% to 95%, and the Support Speed from 50 mm/s to 60 mm/s. The print went extremely ...

Re: Dollop of rubbish at start of print

Hi Kfleck Printing a wipe line first sounds like a good idea but I don't speak GCODE. Would you mind re-posting those code lines with your additions highlighted. Thanks Hi crimsonyoshi I agree with your sentiment about seeing the first few 'toddler steps' at the start of a print. That's like a Turne...

Dollop of rubbish at start of print

When I start to print a model on my Pro2 my support nozzle extrudes a little filament (probably to purge the nozzle) then commences printing the Raft. When it moves to the start position is tends to drag a donkey-dollop of extruded filament to that start position. When the circumference of the Raft ...

Re: Power outage changes nozzles

Thanks Jetguy for a detailed and well reasoned answer. I appreciate that you put a lot of effort into that. I'm sorry that I have to tell you that I was not printing the entire object with the Right (support) Nozzle. You can see that in the photograph in that most of the axle (the object in question...

Re: Soluble Support Material

Current progress is that I increased the gap a bit and it prints with (solid) eSun PLA+ support. The solid support in the hinges just crumbles out and all is well. Currently printing four sets (39 hours). As far as the soluble stuff (eSun PVA) goes, I can't get it to stuck to the Print Platform. Rai...

Power outage changes nozzles

This morning a power outage paused a task. Selecting Continue current task or whatever resulted in my Pro2 continuing the print with the Right (support) nozzle not the Left (product) nozzle. 190527-RacingStripe.png I'm looking on the bright side. It could be racing stripes. (Wow!) I could use it as ...

Re: Changing "First Layer" Settings

The gaps are consistent - the ones pictured were easy to see. I changed Dense Support Layers to 3; Dense Support Infill Ratio to 80; Support Infill Ratio to 30 190516-MedalliionBackOffDenseSupport.png Better but still below par. It still seems to be a problem with insufficient material being deposit...

Re: Does anyone here speak Raise?

Ah Ha! 1. That's not a 'Skirt' , it's a 'Wipe Wall' . You say that a Wipe Wall is 'used to purge between colors with dual extrusion'. Yes, I do have a Dual Extruder machine (Pro2) but it uses separate nozzles to do the separate colours shown above. Why would it need to purge? Frankly, I find the Wip...

Re: Changing "First Layer" Settings

Here's another aspect. When printing the Giveaway Whatsit I find that the layer at the bottom of the embossed area is also porous 190516-LayerStriation.png The threads of PLA laid down do not form a contiguous layer. Here it is closer up 190516-LayerStriationCloseUp.png You can see (I hope) that two...
