Re: Precision placement of Z-Seam on single and multiple objects.

So by doing some more testing, it looks like the seam always wants to be at the beginning or end of a curve or corner that is closest to the provided coordinates. I cannot get the seem to start in the middle of a flat plane - does that sound correct? The screen shot shows where the seam is placed wi...

Precision placement of Z-Seam on single and multiple objects.

All, I'd like to know how to place a z-seam in a specific location on a print. I know how to move a seam around using the 'fixed' option in layer and changing the X and Y information - but I can only precisely get the z-seam on a corner. I have a print that one side sits on the desk surface, so I'd ...

Re: 'Ripples' on the face where I moved the seam

Good to hear you have success. Was your spool of "3D Printing Canada PLA" fresh (new) or it has already some age, that could affect the material properties? Sometimes there are material or spool that are really worst than others and there are so many parameters in 3D printing that what wi...

Re: 'Ripples' on the face where I moved the seam

Results - I have used the modify tool to remove infill from that section and will print. NO CHANGE - I will print using the White PLA template with the black original spool - it would be interesting if the issue is tied to the template - even though the compare shows them as identical with the excep...

Re: 'Ripples' on the face where I moved the seam

New data: - I printed in a different brand / color or PLA at the 45 degree angle and did not observe the ripple. - I printed in the same spool as originally having the issue at the 45 degree angle and DID observe the ripple. - I tried varying the temperature from 190C to 210C on the original spool w...

Re: 'Ripples' on the face where I moved the seam

Just an FYI - the default CR-10 profile I used eventually printed poorly as it was not tuned to my printer - attempting the 45 degree rotation today when the printer becomes available

Good idea - I will try that.

I did download a CR-10 profile from IdeaMaker just to see if I ran that profile straight what would happen - it prints well - so there is a setting between the two that I need to find...

Re: 'Ripples' on the face where I moved the seam

Actually - it is not starting at the cooling layer - it is starting at the first perimeter that does not have a solid infill layer (bottom or top layer).

Still poking around

Re: 'Ripples' on the face where I moved the seam

Thank you - I selected 200 based on temp tower results - so I'm making a minor change to cooling. I think I may have accidentally turned on 'Slow Down Printing Speed' in the cooling section - I disabled and trying my print again. The fact that it does not occur if I do a free cut part might lend cre...

Re: 'Ripples' on the face where I moved the seam

Interesting - it looks like it STARTS on the layer where cooling starts. So, I wonder if I should raise the temp on the PLA or reduce the cooling

Re: 'Ripples' on the face where I moved the seam

I switched orientation (basically making that face print on the Y axis instead of the X axis - same thing - continuing to try different settings.

Re: 'Ripples' on the face where I moved the seam

From the slicers point of view - this is the surface with the ripple - the z-seam is right on the 90 degree corner

Re: 'Ripples' on the face where I moved the seam

A couple of other things I have tried: - reducing speed dramatically (no change) - increasing perimeters (if I get up to 5 the problem seems to go away - but other artifacts are introduced and that uses too much filament) - printer outside perimeters first (no change) - print infill first (no change...

'Ripples' on the face where I moved the seam

I have a print that gets a ripple where ever I move the seam to. I tried it with Advanced Acceleration / Jerk enabled and disabled.

I'm not sure what setting I should look at to prevent this from happening

Vicky - I resolved this issue - at least moving it to a corner. I am still not able to move it to the middle of a face.

Layer Start position / z-seam placement

I have a 80 x 70 x 28 model that has chamfered corners. Default placement of the z-seam is the lower left corner. I am trying to move the seam to the left or right rear corner, or the center of the back face. I have changed the start layer placement to fixed, however no combination of x and y coordi...
