What happened to the silicone hot-end covers that were supposedly available from the web site more than a month ago?
R3D doesn't seem to actually get around to shipping parts lately...
Where the devil are the silicone hot-end covers?
Re: Where the devil are the silicone hot-end covers?
Was wondering that myself.

Those are pre-orders which were supposed to start delivery at the end August.
We apologize that it will be one week delay compared with our previous promise. We will start delivery from next week.

I believe the web page never said the hot-end covers were pre-orders, just the camera.

I remember it should have marked as pre-order on its page.
Re: Where the devil are the silicone hot-end covers?
Thank you. I finally got a shipped notice today.

9/9 - Nope - same old BS of sending out a shipped notice without actually shipping the product.

Got mine in the mail today.
They're like little socks for your hot-ends
If you don't have any Kapton or insulation to remove, they slip right on and fit quite nicely without having to take the hot-end assembly out of its socket. I like the fact that they cover a good bit of the nozzle as well.
I think this could have been less frustrating if they'd been marked as "for pre-order" in the store earlier on.
It's things like this slipping through the cracks that tend to cause a lot of frustration here.

Re: Where the devil are the silicone hot-end covers?
I'm getting mine in the mail on Wednesday I expect I may need to lower my nozzle temps a bit. Or rather I may now start printing at recommended print temperatures. I find I always need to print about 10 deg higher than the recommended temperature of each filament.
Re: Where the devil are the silicone hot-end covers?
Don’t think you will need to adjust your temperature but you should Autotune the PID settings. Mine were quite different with the sock installed.

Will do. Thanks for the advice.
Re: Where the devil are the silicone hot-end covers?
Do you need to clean up the heating blocks and nozzles before fitting the socks? Mine have had some close encounters with failed prints, but I wouldn't say the build up is excessive.

Probably not critical as I would not expect the silicone to adhere to the plastic residue, but it should be pretty easy to clean up. Remove the hot-end from the gantry, heat up to about 150C. With and insulated glove or pliers, hold the hot end while you scrape off the residue with a razor blade. Generally it comes off pretty easy when warm.
