First solid layer on top of infill messed (corners curl)

Postby photoholic » Tue Apr 04, 2017 6:14 am

Hi there

I want to print this toothbrush-loader-station:

Problem is the first solid layer above the infill... gets messed up completely on the edges... curl up and then the mess starts.

Any ideas? Solid fill pattern to rectilinear? Reducing layer hight (it's now 0.25)?

I already printed this with a Prusa sliced with Simplify3D with the same infill pattern fill percentage... no issues.

Thanks for any hints

Is the top solid layer speed the same you used with S3D and Prusa ?
Was the infill good when it starts to print the first top layer ?
Maybe, the cooling/the speed can help to improve with these settings.

but, as you said,i think you have to select "rectilinear" for top solid layer in Ideamaker to get the result you had in the past because in S3D the external infill is "rectilinear" or "concentric".
I think it's more difficult to have good layers as you want with "lines" pattern even if it doesn't perform retraction between each line (it does it on the last top layers).

Thanks a lot... infill just below the solid layer is perfect. Will check the speed settings...

Hey guys check this huge difference in patterns... Simplify3D vs. Ideamaker first solid layer on infill. Btw. same Layer hight Ideamker guesses 15h S3D 12h... strange... guess I will definitely switch to Simplify3D.

First solid layers on infill examples (both 20% fill density):

Simplify3D:

IMHO the Simplify3D pattern is sooo much better but probably I'm just doing something wrong as usual ;)

S3D is better except for thin wall

But in your example, are the two infills patterns rectilinear ?
You can switch to rectilinear in ideamker also (on the picture, it seems to me that your infill in ideamaker is "lines")

Thanks... as I assumed it's my fault... Ideamaker after switched to rectilinear:
