Extreme loud noise/vibration before and after a print

Postby redUFO » Thu Aug 04, 2016 7:04 pm

This started just recently.

I select a print, wait for the nozzle to heat up. The PLA starts to melt and then the printer starts banging on either the x or y position for 10 seconds and it vibrates alot. It does this for 10 seconds until it seems to calibrate then the bed comes up to position and it begins the print.

When the print is finish and it returns to the home position it might also do this again. But it does this very time I print now. I'm worried this is going to break the printer.

Here is a youtube clip showing this in action.

Skip forward to the 1.00 mark to see it get loud.

What should I do? I'm a bit scared to use this right now.

Yeh this is a bad thing. It seems like your x limit switch isn't triggering. If so then what you are hearing is the steppers forced to skip. Check that out first, some have had the switch break, can happen any time its just bad luck.

Also disengage steppers and make sure you can move the print head around by hand without too much binding.

DO NOT keep printing with this. If you can't figure it out right away, send in a help ticket.

Thanks, seems you're right. I stopped the print and then looked for the 2 limit switches.

The limit switch which is next to the snake of electronics thing that goes to the extruders. Anyway I touched that and it crumbed into pieces.

Support confirmed its the limit switch.

Outstanding support. Even tho the printer is down briefly I still recommend this printer to anybody on the fence.

Fixed it yesterday in less than 5 minutes! Works like a charm. I started to really miss printing the few days it was down and now its running nearly 24/7 again.

Stellar support!
