automatic shutdown at end of print

Postby 3D MAKE » Mon Nov 13, 2017 5:23 pm

It would be a good thing if you could turn it off automatically or otherwise enter on the sleeping mode (fan off, led lights off, etc)
The function might be added if it does not work for a few minutes on the printer.
I have a Zortrax that has this feature, it is very useful.
Thanks

Hi 3D MAKE,

Thank you for your request, I will have this request sent to our engineer's. Our setup is a little different from the M200's so things like the fans will always be on when the printer has power. In any event, we still need feedback like this wherever we can get it, so thank you once again.

As well as I did so, it's the only thing I can do

Hi Targo,

That is a really cool power socket switch you have. Have you had any issues with it shutting the machine down before your print is actually done?

Newbie here :D

I am curious as to how often Raise implements software or firmware updates like this?

When you say "like this", if you mean a request that is not possible since the very hardware cannot support the function?

We normally run an update about once every 2-3 months for the touchscreen firmware and ideaMaker. This is not a guarantee on the time frame but it is a good indication. Right now we have ideaMaker 3.0 being openly tested in the forums, our plan is to test it and find as many bugs as possible and update it with more feature requests if time permits. (Cant just ask the engineer's for everything at once)

JetGuy: I'm not sure the hardware cannot support this function.

Michael P: Thanks for heads-up!

"Cant just ask the engineer's for everything at once" - Sure you can. Just kidding.

Hi Michael,
I've been using this switch for several months and it works flawlessly. When I set up the printer I override the shutdown with a bypass switch. During printing, I activate the shutdown and turn off the bypass switch. As soon as the current consumption falls below a certain, adjustable value (heating off, printing finished), the switch switches off completely 60 sec later. The whole thing looks a bit temporary, but this usually lasts the longest.

I'm going to go with supporting an automatic shut down option at the end of a print rather than modifying the printer or how it's simply powered by a standard wall socket.

I use Vera home controller and Z-Wave outlet, so I turn the printer power off when its wattage falls below 33W for more than a minute.
It is an easy solution and all my printers are controlled that way -- since none of them have automatic power-off. :-(
The good part about this is that it can also notify me via email/text that print is done.

I use a something similar System like AJM, called Fritzdect200. Controlled via WLAN and Router.
In Standby mode my N2 Needs 33 Watt. After 20 min under 35 Watt Printer shut automatically down.

Good Decision! You can also watch your energy consumption.
Just dangerous when you flash your firmware :o
So do not forgert to change your power supply!

Michael P. Without me tearing apart my printer. What is the estimated idle wattage in the standard N2?

I'm not an electrician, so my intention is to find a "smart socket" that will work with an american wall socket.

We don't want to leave the printer, fans and all, running for all hours if it stops in the middle of the night.

I'll second the request to make the printer go into sleep mode when a job is finished and after so many minutes (say 5 minutes). It bothers me to start a print and have it finished and then sitting on full fan, etc. for hours.

For about the same price as Fritzdect200 you could get an old Vera (or most any) home controller and a smart outlet. Each additional outlet is about $30, so it immediately becomes cheaper when used with more than one printer. It does not have the problem of unwanted shutdown (like during firmware update) and you can program it the way you want.
The way I have setup is that it powers-down when Raise3D-N2 is 33W or below for a minute, but only if I am not in the same room. Also, it does not arm itself for power-down unless the printer actually start printing. This way, it won't shutdown while sending a file over. When the power-down occurs it announces "Print complete" by voice if I am in the same room, else it sends me a text message. For the printer I use often, I even power it up automatically when I go near it.
You just can't do something like this with Fritzdect200. Yep, I am lazy. But I do try to minimize wasted electricity.
