Sleep Mode

Postby rgriesbeck » Wed Mar 23, 2016 3:04 pm

I would really like to see the printers able to power down or go into a sleep mode after done printing. Often I print something, leave, and then am not around for hours once the printer is done.

I think having the printer running just wastes power and put unnecessary wear on the fans...

Thanks

Vernon's FW branch puts fan power on to another connector on the breakout board which is controlled by the temp. This was in the old forum. You then have to put the two connections of the fan into that one port. I intend to do that mod when I get the time.

It puts all fans? Or just the extruder fan? I'd like the whole thing to power down, like my MakerBots do... Don't know if that's too much to ask for?

The N2/N2+s as delivered currently use the same fan(s) for extruder and downward cooling. No idea what is in the N1.
Adding a separate downward fan is real easy though...

Jetguy, do you know if your mods to the firmware will be carried into any updates that Raise will make in the future?

thanks!

Whoops! I did not realize that your mod used the gcode controlled power port I use for the downward fan. IMO the downward fan is substantially more important then a temp controlled extruder fan... by a lot! I won't be doing that mod!

We are gonna to fix this a little bit later. Currently, working on a printable standalone cooling fan duct. After that, we need to modify the firmware. Actually, we have two gcode controlled port on the extruder breakout. So standalone cooling system with automatically switch coldend fan can be easily implemented. Jetguy's mod is great!

I'm glad to hear that, I was going to try Jetguys way, but it scares me. I'll wait for the official solution, but one way or another I want my N2 to sleep when it's done.

Thanks again

Is there some digital outputs that can be turned on and off by Gcode? One could use this in the end of print code to shut it off. Codes like M80 and M81 to turn on and off the power supply....
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

#1 only the n2 and N2Plus have a PSU with a turn on connection. Reading the data sheet and doing measuring, I really think you need an opt isolator or a relay as that signal was not logic level when I tested. Further complicating this, to do it right, you really want standby power rather than eating the battery and praying it turns the entire system on.

Basically, there is no official solution. There is unlikely to be without a major rewire and overhaul. I have studied every component in the system, come up with some basic plans on how one could implement, but it's quite complex. Again, if it was easy, I of all people would have done it and posted it. That was part of my reason for backing Raise 3D, to push the possible future changes.

No progress was made on this. I would generally call it ill advised. We have no standby power supply to maintain charge of the battery and there already is a self discharge rate. A proper modification will require adding yet another smaller power supply connected to the mains, and in terms of safety to the general public, that's I'll advised as a modification for untrained folks to make. That's just one change, there are dozens and dozens to make this a safe and reliable modification. I have not even attempted based on the fact that any given LCD or firmware update to the motion controller could react badly as well. Once you make the mod, you would have to maintain your entire system end to end yourself because now it would be different than mainline.

The sleep mode is on the list. We may make it to stop the LED, cooling fans and dim the touch screen after long time no use.
Still have some works on firmware and software.

Well as I'm not electronically minded could not a 'trip switch, be incorporated in the plug or cable. bit like a RCB. So say after 15 mins of the print finishing a signal from the controller board is sent and it trips a switch. The all you have to do it press a button to un trip it ?

We have already added screen locker in the latest touchscreen firmware.
