Alternate Dual Extrusion Method for wipewall

Postby firesped » Fri Dec 09, 2016 12:34 pm

The issue with the current wipewall that I have had is, the wipewall is not printed on toolchange. When i was trying to print the head alignment parts, It would print left fine, then print right. change layers, print right (including the wipewall) then switch back to left. At this point, the left nozzle just dumped out a ton of plastic on to the print, which it had to hit ever time it went over that spot with the nozzles.
So the issue I see is that the wipewall was not actually being used to prime the other tool on tool change. Is that not what a wipewall if for?

I was watching a video on youtube by RAM773D and in the video he had come up with a way to use hallow towers on the sides to print in multiple colors. I asked him on his youtube how he did it but I haven't tried to do it yet. My question would be if this could be built in as an alternate type of wipewall into ideamaker versus the current method.

each extruder would have a priming hollow rectangle off to either side of the printer. When changing tools, it would go to print this first then print on the main printer. This way, if the hotend decides to take a dump of filament, it is in a throw away waste bucket instead of ruining the print.

what I see would need to be added is new options for wipewall settings. So the user can set the parameters for wipewall. We might even be able to get the current wipewall to work better just with more options.

Wipewall settings tab options
current options
enable wipewall
wipewall offset

new options
print wipewall on toolchange
type of wipewall
shell (current)
dump bucket (hallow rectangles to the sides)

shell would have the options
wipewall offset

dump bucket would have the options
X length
Y length
distance from print

There seems to be a lot of new options in the latest ideamaker that may make this work.

YES I AGREE WIPEWALL DOES NOT WORK RIGHT!

THe First thing printed on each color change MUST be the wipewall!!! Watch it as it prints, the timing of the wipwall print is in the wrong place after the first layer!

Well noted.
Actually Wipe Tower or more other types of Wipe Wall is on our list. You may =see them in near future in ideaMaker.

I don't know why but Wipewall doesn't work properly.
Every time I use it with any settings it fells down on to model.
It prints with only 1 line and begins to destroy itself at 10-15 layer.
Maybe 2 -3 lines will work better?

that is odd. Are you printing PLA without an insulated hotend?

I'll try to take a pic, just stopped to use wipewall at all.
2walshlg: ABS+HIPS as support.

If I may re-itterate-> the logic needs to be that as soon as change printhead then print wipewall firsthing.

So first layer wipewall is only printed after headchange, then next layer is started and wipewall not printed until headchanges again.

Sorry for longtime silence: no time to test. And no such a tasks.

But probably I find the decision.
there was a big problem with delamination and maybe the wipewall begins to destroy because of that. Now I changed to ABS-juce with glass (instead of beer/pepsi+sugar)+ raft@brim... and both problems gone away. Last 3 prints - 110x85x25mm for 7-9 hours wall is standing.

walshlg,
I didn't check any other material with wipewall. Just ABS+HIPS.
