Thor Hammer/Captain America Shield

Postby robpauza » Tue May 30, 2017 12:52 am

Hi guys,

Just thought I'd share a couple recent builds that I utilized my Raise3D printer on. Both of these are 100% 3d modeled, printed and painted by me. The nameplates are laser etched. I'm really liking my N2 printer! Anyway, here's a bunch of photos and there's also a few video links of the builds.

(I used Hatchbox PLA on the Thor Hammer and eSun PLA for the Shield)

Questions/comments are definitely welcome. Thanks for looking.

Those are EXCELLENT! The prints turned out great! Can you give a few details on layer settings and I would love to hear what you did in post for the detailing.
That hammer is outstanding!!!!

Nice work sir!

EDIT: Never mind, just subscribed to your YouTube channel. Very nice work on the videos also!!!

Question: How do you feel about the plastic putty vs plain old elmers wood filler? I have had good luck with wood filler adhering to pla and it is very sandable....

lami3d:
Thanks so much. I appreciate it.

bellatrixzen:
Thanks for the compliments. As far as layer settings, I'm not doing much unusual. I pretty much use default settings, but lay down the first layer really slow and use 125c for extrude temp and 50c bed temp, then after a few solid layers take bed to 40c, then after about 1/4" or so, take it to 35c. I've found that if the bed is hot, it sticks really well, but it's more likely to warp later as upper layers cool and contract. (I think, at least). As far as the putty goes, I've never even thought about using wood putty. I may have to try that. I really like the squeeze bottle on the vallejo I used, but I think I prefer Milliput. It shrinks little to none based on coverage, but is two part and therefore a bit more cumbersome to use. Also, I've definitely noticed that different brands of PLA and even different colors sand differently, so that may also be a factor in what works best as well.

Brandon:
Thank you sir.
