303mm Diameter Print Time Lapse 26+ Hrs to 52 seconds.

Postby Michael » Wed Oct 12, 2016 12:22 pm

In testing the new single files for BB-8 Builders Club, thought I would share a time lapse of a 26+ hr print, into a 52 second time lapse.

This is the largest diameter (303mm) pieces, aka the Orange Rings, of our BB-8 club files. All new V3 files are available now on www.bb8builders.club

Typically we capture multiple angles via different mechanisms (time lapse & realtime) so we can analyze when something occurs. Then we can improve either part model, the settings or the extrusion orientation.

Enjoy...

That looks very cool. Thanks for the sharing!

If you can share more details about what you are using, that will be great to those who are looking such function.

Vicky we use several Google Nest cams placed around the printers so we can easily keep an eye on prints, filament feeds, etc. That way we can monitor any printer, job, whatever in the farm. With strategic placement we can see the filament feeds of 4 different printers with one cam.

For general time lapse print videos, we use GoPros set at 1 minute intervals, and as you can tell, we place them near the top cable in the left top rear of the printer, to get an obstruction free image as possible.

Did you slice with S3D or IM? When I sliced with IM it had supports for the entire ring, so 70+ hrs.

Hi Gizmo, These 3 were sliced with IM, overhang is set to 73° gave the best result with IM.

Had to use a dremel 511e abrasive buffs to remove the support though, unless density set very loose... will get exact settings for you if needed.

Abrasive buffs make very fast work of support cleanup on the underside of prints.

Your English is fantastic.

You are correct,, the inner spheres parts are used to make static, animatronic or fully operational version.

Thanks ;) Good thing the translators exist!!

I assume that :
- the static version is a simple scale model
- the animatronic is a scale model with sound and light and the Dome can move
- the fully operational is a animatronic with all movement !!
Have i just ?

Thus I look forward to this weekend

Hi Budi, we have released a 3D printable inner sphere, along with 2 other version that members have contributed (Cary Christie & Joseph Marcielli). There is a combination printed & aluminum version as well from Micke Askernäs (aka Skeleton sphere).

All of those files, are released CC V4 BY-SA-NC and will be made available again shortly as we unify and move the files onto .club.

While we still support the acrylic design for those prefer the operation, we consider it deprecated.

Yes, used 3 lines for the Brim/Skirt.

Those small circles are helper disks, which are really easy to remove and clean up in the workflow.
