Ross Fountain, Edinburgh

Postby Alrawly » Thu Nov 29, 2018 5:55 pm

Another recent work in progress.

This is the Ross Fountain in Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh. We laser scanned the full fountain before it was dismantled for restoration. Its pretty huge at about 12m tall! The print has been split into multiple parts to fit inside the N2+ and to avoid as many overhangs as possible. This print is approx 600mm tall. With two parts of the base still to print we may adjust the settings to get a better finish on the top surface.

Nice job, I do a lot of this type of work in my business as well. You said you used a laser scanner, was it a Surphaser or something equivalent? I got away from lasers years ago and went to SLI Scanning instead. It looks like you were able to capture really good detail throughout the model. I would be curious to see a blow up of one of the figures at the bowls in wire form to see what kind of resolution you got.

Thanks for sharing.
