Raise3d Pro2 Review in Deutsch Video

Postby Prop-Fiction » Thu Jun 21, 2018 9:23 pm

Hello,
I thought I'll do a little German-speaking unpack and first experiences Review.
I have the Raise3d pro2 now a little over 1 week and have to say I'm super mega happy.
I switched from Ultimaker 1 and 2. I definitely do not regret that.
I would also like to deal with German-speaking Raise3d users.
Thanks to Raise3d for the great device and I hope the community will be as big as Ultimaker is today. you deserve it.
Here is my review video on youtube. In German

Hallo,

And, that printer already has a serious fault out of the box while watching the video.

Your extruder cooling fan does not appear to be spinning while extruders are heated. The big fan in the front cools the critical heatsink of the hotend, so at minute 7:54 in the video, you first showed the LCD control panel showing the extruders hot, and then at 7:58 the front fan is not spinning in the video, nor is it spinning in later shots during printing.

Google translate to German because it's 5AM and my German is not as good as it used to be.

Again, in the video, we see the screenshot and timestamp the hotends are heating and well above 50C. On the previous N series, the extruder cooling fans were wired to constant on ports (not software/firmware controlled). My understanding is that maybe they enabled the extruder cooling fan to be software/firmware controlled in the Pro2, but regardless, it must be working whenever the heaters for the extruder are on or hotter than 50C.

Then, just a second or two later, the fan that should be spinning and cooling the system anytime the heaters are above 50C is not spinning. This is not a camera stopping the motion from frame rate, please review the video, the fan is clearly not spinning. I've also noted the purpose of the fans in the picture.
Fans description.jpg

Now later in the video, we are actually printing and we have even more video time clearly showing the critical cooling fan that must spin to prevent heat damage to nearby components is not spinning while the system is clearly hot and printing.
Printing and extruder fan not spinning.jpg

Last, here is a picture of a Pro2 series partially open to show the components and that the front fan is the duct to cool the heatsink and also cool the nearby servo motor that is just mm away from the heater blocks radiating heat at 215C. This is why it is critical that that fan must spin, to cool those components and filament path that must not get hot enough to melt.

Again, I would immediately contact support and I suggest you do not attempt to print or heat the system until you get an answer from Raise 3D tech support.

Watching an alternate video of the Pro2, it may be hard to see, but the extruder fan is spinning in this video while hot and while loading.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20qeZe1jDaQ
At around 4:20 or so, they are showing the loading process of preheating and then filament extruding and again, while hard to see, the front fan is spinning in the video at 4:33.

Ok, I found the solution to the problem.
The fan was connected to the wrong slot on the board.
The plug was attached to the bottom connector.
On the middle he has contact and runs now.
Should not be so in the delivery condition, but it was still a simple solution.

Just for in case anyone else meets fan issues on Pro2 serie's printer in future, please pay attention to the plugs marked in the below picture.

Yes this will not be good.
But it’s easy solved. You only have to know;-)

Why my plugs market looks so different to yours?

I'm curious how this was not caught by the QA/Final checks, especially that they do a bed leveling routine. The engineer should be checking out all the critical functions of the printer, including the hotend fan.

hey clearly something like that must not happen! but I myself work in a manufacturing company where we should not allow ourselves any mistakes and actually do not have to do it. but still things happen with us because the hands would hit over the head together.
it must not happen, but unfortunately happens.

OK, I see two pictures here in the thread that are different.
One from Vicky and one from Prop-Fiction. One has the plug in the middle and one has it at the end (bottom). I would assume that Vicky's right right but all the conversation in the posts says it's the other way.
Which is correct? (I rotated prop's to make it easier to see.)
- thanks,
James

I am confused now.
Which one of these is correct?
I would assume Vicky's is because she is the Rep but the posts seem to indicate that the middle plug is what is needed.

The three 2.54mm-2pin terminals at right side in vertical direction are designed to be same, 12V constant-on.

Any chance you can help check whether the top one at right side works or not?
