BTSN2 Build Plate for Raise3D N2 Printers
Re: BTSN2 Build Plate for Raise3D N2 Printers
Do you have any recommendations for getting AquaNet on nice and even?
Re: BTSN2 Build Plate for Raise3D N2 Printers
LOL tough one -> NEW cans are aweful and spit all over! My friend uses really brief presses and gets better results than I do with a continuous spray but I'm too impatient. I rotate the bed between sprays and leave it on heated to 50C for 15 min before use. I also find that if I have a large print, I get best results cleaning off all the hairspray with rubbing alcohol and re-spraying

Any results to share from the ABS testing yet?

Yes.. the main problem I have with the BTSN2 plate is that for ABS prints that are especially prone to warping the BTSN2 plate is too flexible. For example a part that is about 5"x.75" will flex the plate.
So for now I have gone back to printing on BuildTak on glass for this particular part.
Otherwise for PLA prints it's great!

That's good to know. My parts are ABS+ corner to corner. They REALLY want to warp.
I've been printing on buildtak too. I added 1mm mouse ears to each end and a print pause at 1.1mm in ideamaker. When the print pauses I put clamps on the mouse ears (since they go to the edge of the glass) and then resume printing. Holds everything down nicely.

Looks like we have the same idea. My print is over 60 hours so I take extra precautions to prevent warping. As you know, a good start is the key to a successful print.
I also only want support on parts that touch the bed so I design my own ears to go around the bits that need it.

Too bad the part I'm having trouble with does not go edge to edge..
I'm thinking of placing some hairline gaps in the bottom of this print so that it's not one long piece of plastic shrinking towards the middle but instead (in theory) smaller pieces shrinking towards their own middles.. at least for the first dozen or so layers.

So for this print are you printing on glass with slurry?

Tape (see link) with ABS slurry. I've had the printer for a month and I think I've experimented with about a dozen materials so far.
Up next is the BTSN2 plate with 3DLac adhesive.

Re: BTSN2 Build Plate for Raise3D N2 Printers
You are right, the first layer is critical for good prints. When designing our BB-8 parts, we used surface breaks, strategic holes, voids, and other techniques buried in the print to help those printing with ABS. Even to the point of putting integrated helper disks or angled internal supports into the part to help prevent warping. It's one of the reasons why we made 1 to 4 piece version of the same part. While most builders will never notice, they always get surprised how well it work. It gets to be interesting when thinking about manufacturing a part that you have no idea what material is going to be used. Most designers, engineer for their printer farm with their material of choice.

Quick update, we only have 12 BTSN2 plates remaining in stock.
Shipping here in the US will start to get crazy in about 2-3 weeks.
Lastly, due to scheduling of other projects that have to be ready by April 2017, we may not be able to schedule another run of the BTSN2 till late Feb or early March 2017.
