Filament delivery

Postby hentjmen » Thu Apr 12, 2018 9:17 pm

Raise 3D should change their spool holders and filament delivery setup. This setup works!

Seems like a good idea. Possible to share the STL file with us? Looks like a printed part.

I use overhead with all my other printers, but I like leaving the cover on the N2 because it greatly reduces the sound level.

Looks good, but what problem is it solving?
I haven't had any issues with the stock setup - at least none that this would resolve.

The stock setup is at a bad angle and too far away from the bottom spool. I had 2 failed prints due to the filament coming off the spool and getting stuck between the spool and the machine.

With a relatively full spool and a bit of rotational momentum, the stock setup can sometimes spill filament off the spool, which wraps around the holder axle and jams, which can then cause printer damage. Happened to me once or twice but fortunately no damage ensued.

I had the same thing happen to me. For me the drag on the spool in certain areas of a larger print caused to much drag and missed layers. Now for some it might work well but i have found that the overhead holder works more effective for me. Might not for others but since i switched to it a lot of my printing problems have been resolved.

I could see how it could be an issue if no feed tube is used. Feeding naked seemed like a bad idea to me, so I never tried it.

It can, and has, happened with the PTFE tube installed as it comes from the factory.

What did you use for the attaching screws? There is only 2mm clearance between bed and mounting bracket on my N2, and I'm wondering how you got a screw head to clear the bed?

More like 1/4" on my early-vintage N2.

I'm also wondering about routing of the tubing - it sure looks like it would rub against the greasy right-side smoothrod.

I'm thinking that just pushing the tubing a few inches inside the filament-feed compartment could do the same thing?

I drilled a new hole for second tube. There is 0.17” clearance from bed for hardware.
