Z-height and temperature

Postby HugeOne » Wed Mar 15, 2017 2:04 pm

I noticed that the Z-home change a lot on my N2 from a cold to a warmed up machine. Probably around 0.2mm lower after warm up.
So far I modified the Gcode start so the machine heat the print bed for 15min before each print. It work, but I would prefer a faster solution, maybe a new Z-switch?

The Z switch in and of itself is not temperature dependent. However, the mechanics being aluminum expand and contract, and coupled with different layers of materials that the Z stage and bed is made of, the shape can and does change. So you are seeing that change- not a result of the switch, but your bed changing, which is why it's that much more important to let everything stabilize when running higher temps and as such you level and set the z gap in the state you intend to print at.
