Official guidance on the extruder steppers (the red A4988 drivers).
Note, if you upgrade to a Bondtech extruder, the voltage guidance is lower 0.6V Vref because the Bondtech is a nylon housing and doesn't sink as much heat away from the extruder motor.

i'm having some trouble adjusting the VREF in the electrical box.. turning the screw for the stepper drivers doesnt effect the voltage.. it also reads the following values

DC reading:
TOP: 0.796v
BOTTOM: 0.805v

AC reading:
TOP: 0.001v
BOTTOM: 0.001v

maybe my voltmeter isnt set up correctly?
thank you all for the help!

update: i just talked to Martin at Bondtech, he told me that i should be measuring in DC
also, my screwdriver wasnt turning the screw very well, and it was hard to tell at night, but this morning, i got it dialed in. it doesnt take much to change that voltage!
