print order per layer

Postby Thomllama » Sun Jan 07, 2018 10:03 am

Just a simple suggestion, thought. I love Ideamaker generally, but one thing I've noticed that kills time and creates a bunch of lines in top/bottom faces the order in shell count printing. If I say tell it to make a print with 4 shells, it goes and prints a single shell per spot, then moves, prints a single shell, then moves.. then to returns and prints the 2nd shell line, them move,.. blah blah blah... now, would it be better, stronger printing and faster to print all 4 shells in any one spot before move to the next?

Do you mean always printing the shells of one model first, then moving to print the other structures?
I tried with two cubes with 4 shells. Each layer always printing 3 inner shells first, then 1 outer shell then move to infill. Doesn't that meet your request?

So you want to the inner circle complete all the shells, than the little circles one by one then other structure?
Maybe in other order, but each feature completes shells then move to the next?

Notes taken. We will take a look to check whether there has any space to improve.

While you're taking notes :). Really the only feature I still use Cura for in the alter infill/shell per layer feature as it builds stronger parts. Basically it just adds an extra shell/perimeter line every other layer which ties the infill and shells together much better. When printing mechanical parts it makes for noticeably stronger finished product. especially around like screw holes and such that can actually pull through under enough stress.

Would you like to advise the full name of this option in Cura? We will take a look.

So this is another request aside of print order?
1. Print one feature with all shells then move to the next to avoid unnecessary travel
2. Alternate Extra Wall
