Gcode preview looks wrong in Ubuntu

Postby h3ct0r » Tue Dec 12, 2017 3:50 am

Hi,

My Gcode preview is very weird looking, is this normal? This happens with all gcode generated. An image of the preview is attached.

I'm running ideaMaker Ver. 2.6.0.925 on Linux Ubuntu 16.04, video hardware accelerated (Nvidia GeForce 930M).

Thanks!

May I ask your gcode file? To confirm whether it is due to graphic card or others.

Yes sure, the Gcode is on this link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Q9wh1h4oF3SBf4kB3wBhthutuF1CYteV

Thanks!

The gcode file shows properly on my computer.

Do you have such kind of problem on every model or only complex structure?

Please try this: https://www.geforce.com/drivers
Download the latest driver from nvidia's website. Then slice a test cube and check whether the preview works or not.

@Vicky@Raise3D, yes I'm using the latest drivers for Ubuntu (nvidia-384). I have other friends that have the same problem in Ubuntu too, the problem does not depend on the model complexity, it is always that way.

Another example using a simpler model:

What about the printing result? Or only the preview meets problem?

The printing results are great, the only problem is the preview!

I'm so sorry, but we haven't found out the root cause yet.

Great to know that I'm not the only one! :)
The same problem, and it looks it must be Ubuntu specific thing, not Unity (I'm KDE4 user, the same problem on two computers)

Also, interesting part, imported GCODE looks OK, only generated preview makes problems.

Still great to know that even with this Preview I can print with no problem (i was holding back a little as for now).

Also, there is a lot of libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile spam in terminal while running ideaMaker

Great software! :)

Same problem here, I generated the gcode of the 20mm_Calibration_box in windows and in linux and compared them, they looks the same. The problem seems to be in the preview window.

Same problem here with Ubuntu 16.04. The image below allows us to compare the preview of the same .stl file sliced using IdeaMaker on Linux (left) and Windows (right). The preview is really messed up on Linux but works fine on Windows. The problem is not related to the gcode or .stl file, the issue relates to IdeaMaker's preview only.

This is a crucial feature for the software because depending on the .stl file, IdeaMaker becomes useless. No one guarantees that bridging, retraction, support are sliced accordingly, the preview is the only tool available for that purpose.

I am pretty sure I am running the latest video drivers because I can render 3D objects or games for example. Does IdeaMaker require some specific driver or library to render the preview correctly?

Would you like to advise the following information:
1. The type of your GPU
2. Resolution of your monitor
3. Version number of your Ubuntu system

Same issue here.

I have a Laptop with an NVIDIA Quadro K2100M. My screen resolution is always different due to different external monitors connected to my machine. This does not seem to have any influence on this issue. I have a Kubuntu 16.04 with the graphics driver 396.54.

Hi,

I also have this problem. Lenovo Thinkpad, Linux Mint 18.2 Sonya, Lenovo Broadwell-U Integrated Graphics and NVIDIA Corporation GM108M [GeForce 940M], using Nouveau driver. Same models and previews work in Windows. I really love Ideammaker, so I hope that the problem can be solved.

On a side note, there are so many problems related to Linux and NVIDIA cards, that my next laptop will have any gpu but nvidia's...
