Recommended settings for Simplify3D?

Postby RA1981 » Tue Mar 21, 2017 9:33 pm

Hi,

are there any recommended settings for S3D beyond simply choosing the printer model (N2 dual in my case)? For example, any pre- and postprint G-Code commands, layer/extruder settings, etc.?
And are there any settings which shouldn't be changed?

Regards

I'd Also be interested in what people have encountered using S3D with the N2/N2+.

Personally I've encountered an issue with S3D, where the model is shifted in the build volume after slicing, which you can see in preview mode. Not a problem with a small model, however, when slicing a large model that fits tightly in the build volume already, you will see in preview mode that the model get shifted outside of the build volume. This is easy enough to compensate for, but, it's an irritating glitch nonetheless.

Hi Steve,

I saw a shift when disabling 'apply tool offset' option, if I remember correctly.

My current problem is that I've set the 'offset from origin' option to 152.5mm for both X and Y axes to achieve the same behaviour as in Raise3D IdeaMaker software regarding positioning of the models. Now, the models are printed outside of the bed, I got air printings.

The default settings in S3D are wrong for the N2. You need to change the Toolhead offsets for the X Axis:

As far as I can see the toolset offsets are correct.

Tool 0 is assigned to left extruder, offset 0/0 and -25/0mm for tool 1 (right extruder). The only confusing thing is that negative sign for the right extruder offset.

However, I haven't made a S3D print yet, so it might be that the offsets are really wrong and it should be 25/0 for the right extruder.

I also tried to slice with Simplify3D... owned it already before I've bought the N2.

Seems to work so far but if I use two processes via wizard (under tools) to print with both extruders the separate materials or colors appear shifted in the preview... strange.

Is anybody printing dual with PLA/PVA with simplify?

Covered this before. The Raise 3D N series uses a gcode offset for the second toolhead. You already saw and knew that.
Well, S3D does not have a way to fool the user by applying a global offset to the gcode so when you preview both toolheads in gcode you are going to see the offset. Why? because again, all gcode coordinates fro the right toolhead are offset by roughly 25mm in X.
Preview is showing you the real actual gcode paths.

Hello,

I also use S3D. Single parts are not a problem. If I print 2 colours I have a issue with starting the extruder.
Has somebody a starting script that runs for dual printing?
