Update modified parts source file (stl) in IdeaMaker

Postby danielq » Thu Oct 25, 2018 12:02 pm

Hello Folks,

I'm looking for a way to update the part(s) that are already imported and positioned in IdeaMaker, with the new stl file but without deleting it and re-importing it.

Is there a way to tell to IdeaMaker that the source file for that part changed?

Do you mean you want to have the source file with edited positioning information in modeling software update in ideaMaker when importing? Or save the positioning information you edited in ideaMaker?

I mean,

if I have an stl imported in ideamaker and I modify that stl file in a 3d modelling software and resave the stl,

I would like that Ideamaker told me that the stl (source file) has changed (different last changing date and time from the one already imported) and ask me if I want to upload the new stl or take the old one already imported.

After importing the old file, ideaMaker is open during you modeify the file in 3D modeling software at the meantime. And after that, import the new model into the opened ideaMaker which has an old file loaded in already?

quite correct,

but,

I don't want to re-import the new model, but update the old already imported and positioned in ideamaker.

This is the actual way:

- Create STL from the cad Modelling Software
- Import STL in IdeaMaker
- Modify of the 3D model e regenerate the STL
- Delete the one already in IdeaMaker
- Re-Import and Positioning ofthe New Model

What I would Like:

- Create STL from the cad Modelling Software
- Import STL in IdeaMaker
- Modify of the 3D model e regenerate the STL
- IdeaMaker recognize that the STL is changed
- IdeaMaker ask me if I want to update the model or to bring the old one
- If I chose to update the model, IdeaMaker substitute ALL the model with the same STL, with the new one but in the same position.

What I would like to avoid:
Is delete, re-import and re-positioning a lot of parts of the the same model in IdeaMaker after the modification of the STL

Do I make myself more clear? :)

Thanks for your explanation. But I don't really think that ideaMaker can be that smart to work together with other software.
Or do you think this can help? Once you save in the other software, back to ideaMaker, right click the one you have updated and ask for flash to be the latest version.

This will be very helpful!

Other slicing software do as follow: when I switch the window (after saving the new stl) from the 3d model software to the slicing software,
the slincing software prompt me a question about if I want to update the model or take the old one!

Noted, will add it into requesting list to let the software team to discuss which way we can achieve to meet your needs best.
